East Central Florida scanner web site

...If anybody knows of any more web sites please let me know' I have a bearcat 785-pro- 2006-aor8200- and a couple more I'm thinking about getting into ham radios' I'm a disable vet with too much time' need to keep busy' thanks for you and this site I can keep busy. carolinakid

East Central Florida scanner page is about as good as you could ask for. I dare say it is even more up-to-date than RadRef, unless of course the same guy maintains this database for that area. :)

Enjoy!

Hello all. VFD member and student pilot here calling in from Suwannee County (N. Central) Fla. I've got my POV F-150 that I use to roll out to calls in. Personal VFD lighting, siren, with a Yaesu FT-2400H for dispatch and general scanning when im not busy. Also use my wal-mart special Cobra CB-19 Ultra III for highway chit-chat and a Sporty's S-200 VHF & UHF air scanner to listen to ZJX traffic overhead. I usually monitor Suwanne County Sheriff's Dispatch and County Fire Dispatch (duh).

Hey:

I am Capt Ben. I am a licensed merchant mariner working in LA, but I live in Ocala. I monitoring law enforcement here in Marion County. Just lost my OPD - Ocala frequencies yesterday, but have not made any changes to my Pro-106. Any suggestions on a fix is appreciated. Happy Scanning New Year!!

Ocala PD and FD will be going digital sometime early in 2009, at the present time (1-5-2009) OPD is still able to be monitered on a non digital scanner. When they do make the change, they will go digital such as the system Marion County Sheriff and MCFR are now on. I do not know the reason that captben lost signal on the specified date... I have noticed their 800 system go down once before, a few months ago, and OPD used the VHF radios in the vehicles as back-up comms for an hour or so when it happened, but I didnt notice any changes recently on the nite in question. Just my observances.

Thanks

I was able to do a re-program right before New Years Eve. Everything is back to normal for now. I am still unsure what happened, but my Pro-106 is it's old self again. haha Thanks again for responding, this site and forum has been helpful.

no problem captben. if it happens again in the future, be sure to address it locally on either the Florida forums page, or better yet , post it to us on our Ocala/Marion County listeners group on the social groups page... this way you can direct the situation on a local level, to see if we experienced the same problem with-in our Ocala listening area. Our Ocala social group monitors the same freq's that you monitor, and we can better address a reception issue amongst our local group. Take care, see ya there, and have a great evening.

today, Wednesday, Jan 7th, I stopped into a RadioShack store on SR434 in Longwood, Florida to purchase a small switch for work. I asked the store manager if they had any Pro-106 scanners in stock, he told me no and he looked up the next closest RS store that has them in stock. There are 3 (THREE) pro-106 scanners available as of this writting in the Orlando RS store on Orange Blossom Trail. I called the store in Orlando at 5:30 pm, and the Orlando store confirms that they still have 3 in stock. If anyone is in need of one, I guess you could call the store for directions, or go to the RS website and search zip code 32809 and the store should come up . Good luck to any interested parties.

Newbie Here

Hi everybody, I'm a newbie, just getting into this hobby. I'm so new I don't even have a unit yet. I have looked around and almost ready to make a purchase.
Our area requires trunking from what I've read.
What do you think of the RS PRO-197?

This forum is great! Thanks for the opportunity of introducing myself!

Welcome Lee, You'll get good performance from the 197 in this area. I'm North of Navarre and there is a ton of stuff to monitor. Where in NW FL are you located ?

Thanks for the welcome Ray. I am in P'cola and will be monitoring mostly Escambia Co and Pensacola.
I just posted in another area also and now am wondering if I want the 106 or the 197. Any comments? I saw a post that said the 106 were scarce?

Hello radio friends,

Name is Tom Hirsch, I live Seminole County, work as news assigmnent editor at WESH TV-2, the NBC affiliate in Orlando-Daytona Beach-Melbourne-Ocala-Clermont TV market. Also program all the scanners for the TV station, and sometimes shoot aerials from Chopper 2. Shot video of the bad wildfires May 11-15, shot the first aerials of damage and flooding when we were finally able to fly after Tropical Storm Fay in August, and some of the Casey Anthony stories between July and now.

Am interested in any new information on radio systems, new frequencies, talkgroups, changes in radio systems as they add, delete frequencies or talkgroups, and reband.

While I'm too busy to get ham license, I have lots of friends who are hams, and you'll see me at local hamfests & swap meets.

Lee,
I mainly hangout here on RR. Myself and Wise 87 do alot of scanning in the NW FL area. He just got a 197 and really likes it. A quick check of our signatures depict the gear we are running. As far as which radio... 106 or 197 I guess that would come down to your needs. My first high end radio was the 396 for portabilty. Next I went 996 and 15 for use in my shack. Because there is so much digital to monitor in this area, (Navy/ AF bases) I feel a digital is a must.
Weather and ducting conditions dependant, our coverage is Mobile to Panama City and up towards Evergreen.
The data bases for the area on this site are pretty complete, (thanks Wise 87 and others).

oh yea one other thing regarding hand held or desk top radios, would you ever put up an outside antenna ? If so a desk top might be something to consider.

Ray thanks. I've decided to go with the 106. I'll just wait around and read what I can on here and when the 106's come back in stock go with that. I think I'd like the 106 more for the portability.
If I had just thought about getting into this while they were on sale....lol With my luck, they'll never go back on sale. I see their website has them back at full price this morning.

I doubt it will ever be on sale for 299.99 ever again... best wishes to you being on RR, best of luck finding the scanner of your dreams. HAPPY MONITORING !!
