Welcome to RR.com! I know Chicago well as I have in-laws that live in Des Plaines! Did some monitoring when I was up that way a couple years ago...Versailles is a wonderful place to live and you will enjoy monitoring the area...Unitcharlie, myself, and others here will be glad to help you answer any questions you might have!
Happy Monitoring!

Although I still don't have the 800 going yet, I've managed to hear some things in the rest of the area, including a fight in a church parking lot this morning. That does remind me of Gary I have to say.

Hello from Mt. Sterling.
I just moved back here from Florida after 21yrs and am trying to get back into the whole scanning scene again.
I have an old BC 170 and a BC 246T.
I'm looking to get a Pro-2006 already modified.

I would say yes that digital scanners work well with ksp radio. However you must have good antenna system. cause digital radio has to have decent reception . you will either hear it as reqular talk or you want hear nothing or a very annoying bunch noise.

greetings from Fayette Co

Hi, Gang -

I'm a newbie here and looking forward to learning whats new in the radio world these days. Years ago, I had a little Regency 10-channel handheld scanner (my first), a BC510XLT and a couple of desktop model scanners. Over the years, I've also used Motorola, Kenwood, Yaesu and a couple of other portables, with various successes/failures, but they were fun, too. I am no longer involved directly in LE (I was a reserve officer for a couple of years) but still enjoy working in the industry. Today, I am a sales rep for a Louisville-based company selling fleet equipment and live in Lexington.

So, my first self-initiated assignment is to learn more about trunking and the upgrades various agencies have made to their systems since I last monitored them. My interests are Lex Metro, Lex Fire, Fayette Sheriff, KSP, KVE, and maybe some of the surrounding counties, so it sounds like I'll probably need a new fancy "digital" scanner. (I also liked to listen to ATC and RR when I could find them.) I’d also like to learn more about “scanner feeds” via websites and how MDTs are being used these days. Finally, I might consider getting my amateur license; I studied for it years ago, but never took the test!

I am looking forward to being around RR, so be gentle while I get up to speed!
