Your scanner shouldnt be set to Roam on multi site. Try setting it to stationary. Mulit site set to Roam will cause the scanner to find the strongets signal and lock on to it only scanning traffic on THAT tower.....which in your case would be set to the Olathe tower. Setting it to stationary will make the scanner scan through every tower in the system. So if youre in range of the douglas and leavenworth ksics towers it should scan the traffic coming across them. hope this helps

I wondered about that. I will give it a try. Thanks

Just below that entry on the menu, be sure the "CHECK ALL CC" is set to "Yes" also because I believe "No" is default.

I don't think that variable is accessible thru Win500. You will have to go into the menu manually and set the two changes.....

When Multi Site Mode is set to Stationary a new "Check all CC's in every Scan-mode pass" box appears in Win500. Default is unchecked.;)

Thanks, I'd never noticed that it changed when you changed from Roam to Stationary. Learn something new everyday.....

I wondered about that when I switched from ROAM to Stationary. Checked it thinking it made sense. I am hearing much more then I was while using ROAM. Glad it was a simple programming error! Thanks for the help.

I live in rural Wabaunsee County and am able to receive WBSO traffic on the conventional channels I entered manually. However, I cannot receive any traffic from the KSICS channels I downloaded from the database. This includes Pott County, Troop B and Troop C. I selected the Eskridge, Topeka and Flush towers and have the multi-site set on stationary. I am using a Pro-197 with Arc500 software.

I have even tried programming only KSICS channels only (same as above) and did not receive any traffic for the 48 hours I had it programmed that way, despite visual trooper traffic on the interstate in my area.

Any ideas where I am going wrong?

Are you able to hear any of the control channels from those 3 KSICS towers?

no sir. only hear the ones I manually added. That is what is confusing me. Seems like this part should be alot easier than finding and setting the channels from the outlying community services.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Step 1 of diagnosing the problem is: Can you take your scanner out of trunking mode, manually select any of the frequencies that are listed as control channels and hear a data control channel?

If you have not heard one before, check this website and listen to the MP3 of the APCO Project 25 control channel:

W2SJW - Radio Sounds

Do this for each of the trunked tower sites you would like to listen to. If I am not mistaken, if you do so you will hear the control channel and also your scanner should give you a display reading of the percentage of the digital signal it is able to decipher (at least my PRO-2096 does).

Tom:

Can you email or PM me and send me your gr5 file from your scanner from ARC500? I will take a look at it and see if I can see what the problem is. I'll PM you my email address. dg

KAA951 - assuming I did it correctly, I was not able to hear the data control channel on any tower.

dgruver911 - File is headed your way.

Thanks to both of you for your help.

Okay- based on that, you are likely dealing with a reception issue rather than a programming one. You will need to look at different ways to enhance reception, such as antennas. I replaced the stock wideband antennas on my scanners with this antenna:

Max Systems 8BA Scanner Antenna

They also make a portable scanner version...

Max Systems 8HH Scanner Antenna

Using this antenna has increased my signal strength by a good 25% on KSICS.

More talk groups

While driving back to Colorado from Newton yesterday (stuffed full of turkey), I heard TG's 776 and 2061 on KSICS. I was on US 50. 776 seemed to be wildlife officers. They were talking about some incident near Barber County. 2061 was just a quick hit and I couldn't get any identifying info. If one of you Kansans gets a better ID on them, you might submit them to you state database.

In Lyon county the KHP talks on C-Ops channel for car-car but i notice one day someone told another to swith to A-car-car and when they did it was on C-ops talkgroup. is it mislabeld on the website? i'm sure i have it entered in correctly. i wonder which others could be mislabeled? This would be the H1 area.

800 VS 800/VHF-High Hybrid System

I know- 20/20 hindsight. But wouldn't it have been nice to have the technology in place about 10 years ago when they started planning KSICS to be able to develop a hybrid 800/VHF-High band wide area P-25 system like Nebraska is building and Missouri is planning? Apparently they are able to use the "new" multiband radios to roam seamlessly across the state between rural VHF-High trunking sites and urban 700/800 trunking systems (e.g. rural Nebraska is VHF and Omaha area is 800).

I would think that we would have had much better rural coverage if we had been able to use VHF-High band freqs.

I started adding some radio unit IDs to the wiki as noted on my 396xt. I also have quite a few individual KHP units but I am not sure of the rules regarding posting these since it is a unique user. This is my first time editing a wiki and I haven't quite figure out how to make a table so feel free to edit as necessary!
