I know this has been addressed before, but I can't find it.
Does anyone know of a program that is easy to set up, that will allow me to stream live audio from home so I can listen at work, or anywhere else?
Preferrably free, and easy.
Shoutcast seems pretty confusing to most. I'm sure for me too.

Thanks,

Mike

I don't know of any, yet. But i am looking to do exactly the same thing. I also plan on providing feeds for some web radio sites. I've just started researching this, and I came across this site today. ( below ) Very cool. I emailed the webmaster of the site to get info on providing a feed or two. I have not heard back from him yet. As I find out more, I will post.

There's a few free things you can use. Teamspeak, Shoutcast, Icecast, Media Player, etc.... Why not pop over to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LiveScannerAudio

I think you'll find what you're looking for over there.

I use windows media encoder that seems to work pretty well. We are having problems with the new encoder in that it seems to only allow 5 users at one time to be connected to your stream.

Check out ScanCenTex

Teamspeak will be the easiest and most unobtrusive to your systems. It only has about a one second delay from actual transmitted audio to client. Windows Media Encoder is much more of a system hog, and there is about a 10 second delay to the client. It is much more mainstream of course.

My Teamspeak server is open for experimentation. A link is available from the front page of my website, http://www.scanmassachusetts.net .

Regarding the 5 client limitation of Windows Media Encoder 9, this is a default setting. It is easily tweakable in the Windows Registry. Drill down through the help file of WME9, there is a section that describes exactly how to accomplish it. I think I searched for maximum clients or some criteria similiar to that.

Great! We at ScanCenTex have been struggling for several months trying to figure out what the problem is.

I'm going to check out teamspeak and see if it's going to be more user friendly for us

Thanks!

It would be free for you to listen to all the feeds, plus as I said you get money and even get free alpha-pager services... They provide Real software and they also monitor it (and even have the option of reconnecting it themselves) which makes it MUCH more reliable than many of the free feeds available.

This is how I got my Pro2053 online:

http://www.scancapecod.net/livescan/feedtutorial.html

I had mine set up using Windows Media Encoder, XP Pro, using the 8080 port. Switched to a wireless Linksys router (from a hardwired Linksys) and now I can't seem to get it to open up port 8080. It was working great and trouble-free for several days without rebooting the computer. As for the users limit, I was basically the only user, since I'm on the road a lot, in hotels with my laptop on dialup. I'd connect to my server and listen to my own scanner at home. It was kind of neat but gets boring. ;)

I may try some of the above suggestions and see what the outcome is.

I tried scancapecod but got confused.
I don't know what address to use to get back to my streaming PC from the internet.
I'm using a Linksys also and I can access it from another PC in my house, but not outside.
As long as I'm inside usin 192.168.1.1 I can hear it.
What do I use for an address so I can get to it from outside my LAN?

Go in to your router forward the port you setup in WME to the IP on the computer that is goto stream the scanner audio.
then start WME to begin the stream once that is going open up windows media player and type "mms://your outside ip:port number"

You missed a few words there...could you elaborate?
