Comoing Back!

I received an email this afternoon that my scanner was on the way back! It included instructions for updating the SD card. I sent it on 6-2-2017, so turn around was very good,

Watch For Cryptic Email From Whistler.

I almost missed it but thanks to jspence's comment about getting an email from Whistler, I discovered that I had one too! It was from Karen Kitterman with the subject, "DMR Update". The email had important instructions on how to finish the migration.

Need Opensky and OpenSky 2

I'm sorry to tell you this, but you're not going to get them. At least not anytime soon. Opensky is a proprietary format instead of a common standard like P25 and DMR. Also, OpenSky hasn't been all that successful, and the limited number of OpenSky systems that are out there will gradually be replaced.

Well, I realized that CapacityPlus is also proprietary (I believe), so there goes part of my argument. However, I still have doubts that scanners will be receiving and decoding OpenSky systems.

Wonder if an official Whistler upgraded Pro-668 can be cloned to a Non Upgraded 668. Just thought I would ask although Prob not :D

Here's my take on it . I'm very happy that Whistler is offering such an upgrade to 3 scanners that were at the end of their serviceable life. And its well worth the minimal fee to have a scanner that's fully operational with future firmware and software support. I would hate to see a good thing get ruined by non supported firmware.

I think the way to look at it is can you clone a native WS-1080 to a native Pro-668? That is exactly what you would be doing if you attempted to clone an upgraded Pro-668 (now a native WS-1080) to a native Pro-668.

Thanks Whistler ! Received my upgraded scanner .

I received my upgraded 668 today and its working great ! No issues with EZ-Scan software v2.22 .

Thank you Whistler! Very much appreciated .

And a big thank you to Eric, I don't think this would have been possible without his efforts .

You think Eric forced their hand?

The hottest topic in the past several months has been Eric's firmware that gave DMR and new life to 3 scanners that were pretty much written off. I think Whistler realized that there was an opportunity to help out the scanner hobbyist and the same time make a little money, money that they lost because of Radio Shack's bankruptcy.

I recently bought a TRX-1 is because I was so impressed with how well the 668/WS1080 could receive DMR.

Received my PSR-800 back today (the 14th), sent it in on the 1st, nice turnaround. Followed the instructions that were emailed and put it back into service. Its working fine, haven't noticed any changes, and the WS 1080 computer software is very similar to the 800s.
Thanks to Whistler for offering the upgrade.

Did anyone send theirs in with firmware from Eric's tool or did you roll the firmware back?

I sent my scanner in with Eric's upgrade with 4.5 firmware. Got it back today and there was a note "hacked" "Whistler upgraded" with the 4.7 firmware installed

So my next question is do you see a difference in performance ? If so, in what areas...like DMR, LSM improvement, etc.
