I saw a bunch of new TGs popping up with Union Twp affiliations.

TGs 4679 (Possibly PD Encrypted), 4681, 4683, 4685, 4691 (Possibly FD), 4697, 4701, 4705, 4707, 4709, 4711, 4713

Also logged North Caldwell radios affiliating to TGs 4655 & 4657

Not yet confirmed but not off the table from my sources. That’s what he said about PD. He had no idea about Fire.

My source had confirmed they're going before spring, and that PD would be quote, "mostly encrypted". But again of all the agencies in the county, I'd not be surprised at all if Union Township went full dark.

Ansky,

I am also in West Orange with a Pro 668 upgraded to a WS-1080. I am only monitoring the WO simulcast and no other towers and yes it has become slightly garbled. I even tried adding some attentuation thinking we are so close to the tower it maybe overloading the front end and that didn't help either. Montclair PD is extra loud and garbled. Newark FD is also garbled and Verona is also a bit garbled. NW crew25 is also garbled.

Kevin

I'm over in West Caldwell and just got a 996p2 for inside the house. I'm noticing that Montclair PD and North Caldwell PD are usually quite readable, but Newark Fire is a garbled mess 8 times out of 10. Verona is hit-and-miss for me. Phase One Fairfield PD is always loud and clear.

Earlier today I heard what sounded like encryption on Newark Fire channel 4's talkgroup, but perhaps it could just have been audio so garbled
that it sounded like encryption? EDIT: During the snowstorm on March 21st, NFD Channel 4 appeared to be used by either Newark Police or maybe the parking enforcement, but again, with horrible echos.

I'm not sure where the closest transmitter is to me on the WO Simulcast site. I'm running just a magnetic mount "scanner antenna" on top of the power supply, and I have attenuation turned on; on or off makes little difference. Manual threshold, tried values of 6, 7, and 8, with 8 being the clearest on multiple systems.

Any thoughts on fine-tuning this a bit more?

NJICS is PERFECT! You can't be serious. <<<SARCASM!

I'm in Verona... I have to listen to the Verona PD/FD/FAS via the Radio Reference website. My scanner, phase 2 Uniden, for Verona is useless. NJICS sux for the radio enthusiast... in my specific area anyway.

You may want to take a look at the Uniden Thread regarding the new SDS100 scanner.

The NJICS is fine. Your issues are more likely connected to the inability of scanners, until the new Uniden SDS-100, to handle LSM Simulcast properly.

The only thing that's made NJICS usable for me has been to cut down the signal level to the scanner so only one active transmitter is capturing my receiver. Putting in the attenuator and using a poor antenna helps, but at the same time means it's pretty well dedicated to NJICS only...which is fine for now. I have a 996xt on a discone for the non-phase-2 systems and analog. But if you only have one radio, yeah, good luck!

Actually, there is nothing wrong with the system. Systems are not built to keep scanner listeners happy, they’re built to operate with the system radios.

We are using a 996P2 at the Rescue Squad building on Church street. Verona and everything else on NJICS comes in and out. I have tried all the adjustments, and nothing seems to work. We are using an antenna on the roof, so we are getting full signal.

But on the other side of the coin, it’s nice to be able to communicate with the VPD from just about everywhere. Maybe the next generation of scanners will perform better.

Again, this is a flaw in the hardware design of traditional scanners. Their receiver designs just can't adequately handle Linear Simulcast Modulation (LSM). So there's no setting, adjustment, or antenna that can offer the best solution. Uniden's new scanner, the SDS-100, was designed to be software defined and use I/Q processing instead of a discriminator. From everything I've seen, including first hand catching up with one of their volunteer pre-production testers from PA, they really do basically have the issue solved with the new design.

On a system radio it sounds fine up there I bet, same as it does here.

RID's in the 2350xxx range affiliating to MONOC TGs, MedeVac South, Jersey Shore Region 4 and TG 4731. Is MONOC finally making the full transition to NJICS?

They've been flirting with it for some time. A lot of back and forth. Hopefully, they'll settle in on something soon.

I work for MONOC and can tell you that we are switching over to NJICS. We will be getting a couple of TG, think total of 5 or 6. We were using shore 4 for testing for a period and now use shore 4 as backup. I'm not sure what TG 4731 is, might be one of the new TG we will be getting. I'll have to keep a listen to it.
