I found another new tower while monitoring from home.

Site 148 - 769.21875

It shows up as a neighbor to the Lafayette and Abbeville towers. I can get a weak signal from it in Lafayette. I am going West on I-10 tomorrow and if I can get a better signal going that way I will advise.

Okay, more on site 148. While traveling westbound in I-10 I started receiving well near Rayne. I got decode rates in the 90's from Rayne through Acadia Parish unitl about 8 miles past Crowley. The best signal strength was in the Crowley area with decode rates at 99% for a couple of miles on each side of Crowley. By the time I hit Jennings the decode rate had dropped into the 70's. This tower has filled in the coverage gap that existed in the Crowley area. So this tower is probably the Acadia Parish tower, maybe, could be, I guess, possibly so, ya think?.

I just ran down I-10 a couple of weeks back on my way east, running LATIE in scan mode with the known posted talkgroups. Here's what I found:
-Troops D, I, and A are still using 600A, with no patching to LATIE that I heard.
-Lafayette SO/PD/Fire still appears to be using their old analog system in some capacity. Additionally, some group that sounds like facility maintenance is using the Lafayette SO conventional 800 repeater.
-Troop L is using LATIE.
-East Baton Rouge SO has a patch up to West Baton Rouge SO from LATIE to the BR city system that I caught being used during an extended foot chase. I couldn't write down the talkgroups since I was driving, but the audio sounded very good across both systems.

Terrebonne Parish Sheriffs Office question

I went to the Radio Shack in Houma. the manager said that he had been told that Terrebonne Parish Sheriffs Office in 3 months will be encrypting their radios because they will be transmitting compuer packets over that system.

the manager said he will not be selling any of the p25 scanners due to the fact that no one will be able to monitor TPSO because of the encryption within this area.

Does anyone know of any word about this or if this is true?

That clerk is crazy!

It is apparent that the sales clerk you talked to has no idea what he is talking about. ANY digital scanner is capable of receiving the LATIE system.

Troop I

Not sure if they are doing this just for the Storm or Evacuations, but starting at 1800hrs tonight (Sat) I began hearing Troop I dispatching and operating on LATIE *I-Dispatch 1. This was on the Lafayette Tower.

I stayed home the whole time with seven scanners going. One was on the Latie system. I had my PSR-500 on multisite stat so it would check all the control channels within range. From Lafayete I was hearing Plaquemine SO, St Bernard SO, Kenner PD, and a handful of other agencies including National Guard from the Lafayette Tower. There was no problem with the system from what I could tell. I heard all these agencies communicating as well as they do on any given day.

I also was monitoring the state 800 system via the Sunset tower which is the one closest to me. At some point I noticed that my scanner has switched to the Abbeville site and would no longer receive the Sunset tower. I remember during one hurricane a few years ago, I think maybe it was Lily, the Abbeville tower went dead. This was on the 800 system however. Latie had no problems from what I was able to monitor.

It appears that there was perhaps an equipment failure @ MSY, and maybe Gray. The others in the area appear to be connectivity problems. Most connectivity has been restored, except Buras, New Buras, Larose, MSY, and Reggio. I do not think any got flooded or knocked down.

All in all, I expect the system did quite well. Great job to system managers. It looks as if the main problem here was capacity, I am sure the busies report will be big.

JP Simulcast may not have faired as well. Seems to be off the air. No big deal, though.

Region 1 system failures that I saw...

New Orleans Dispatch Center- Consoles dead because of loss of T1's

Troop L Dispatching from St. Tammany S.O. dispatch center thru interop links on cord call

Causeway Police State system failure for them, reverted back to their old UHF repeater

Trooper on the east side of twin span " If I could, I'd throw this brick into the lake"

has anybody else heard of any failures in region 1

The Harrison County people also said the FEMA system on the Gulf Coast also failed during Contra-Flow.

I think we mentioned this in another thread, but anyway, most of the problems seemed to be with connectivity due to the T1s. All the sites seem to be out of site-trunking, as they have installed microwave links between all the towers and Gretna...With the goal of getting connectivity all the way to Buras. Some have at least 1 of the T1s up.

Also, many are still on generators.

My wife and I drove up to Natchitoches about two months ago and I found the following two CC's probably in the Alexandria area:

site 158 - 770.19375
site 160 - 769.18125

Pro96com also showed sites 150 and 151 as neighbors to those but not online yet as of 2 months ago. Let us know what you find when you're up there.

I was able to get 700 coverage until about 20 miles past Alexandria on I-49 then it all went silent the rest of the way to Natch.

Finally, dammit! I was wondering when more of the LSP would go to 700. Glad to hear True Pay is on 700. A few days ago I heard a dispatcher say, "Troop I to all units switch to 700." Since then I have not heard True Pie on 800 at all. I hope it finally stays that way. Now all I need is for Troop D to make the switch.

Troop D made the switch to LATIE today hopefully for good. There radio guy was in Lake Charles Wednesday and was supposed to fix all of the radios. 800 will now only be used as a back-up.

It seems that progress is being made. In relation to the 800 MHz frequencies, it would seem to me that the state would migrate those to the LATIE system as opposed to keeping two systems up and running; after local agencies using the current state system migrate to LATIE of course.
