I just got my Pro 106 and used my serial cable that came with my Pro 96 with Pro96Com and it worked with no problem. Is there anyway Don to get Win500 to work on the Pro 106 with the serial cable?
Would be nice to not have to spend $25 or so on a new cable when the serial works.

In your sig you show PSR500 and PSR600 the 106 should work with the GRE cable.

Skud, ya gotta pay the bucks. However, ya get a lot more for your bucks. These scanners require three contact jack plus the integrated circuit board and can do much more then the 96. Just a few; you can run Pro96Com while also listening to the scanner, stream the scanner or run in remote while logging activity.

There's a COM port build of Win500 on the Win500 web page.

I'm not very confident that some random serial cable will work with real, full-speed uploading to the scanner, though. I do know that my GRE-made serial cable (sold by RadioShack as their catalog #20-289) doesn't work.

Feature wish: remote client window size

Hi Don. Awesome work on Win500, enjoying all the improvements thanks for all the hard work!

One minor little wish, could the remote client save it's window size on exit, so we don't have to resize it every time?

I finally got on this group today and am WAY behind on all the info. Before answering directly---Are there any threads dealing more in depth with many of the "tweeking" settings in the general and extended settings of this program. I have vers 1.80 and would like to have a better general understanding of the tuning and threshold settings.

Tweek Settings

Frank,
Thanks for the Google reference. It offers much more info for what I wanted to know. I guess I'll mess around a bit and see what they do. It always good to know that the default settings generally work well.

Thanks,
Scott

I Second the Awesome Motion

Wow, that was quick! If nobody's told you yet how many different kinds of awesome you are, I'm telling it to you now...

I second the awesome motion. I also run Win500 using Wine and Ubuntu linux. As a Windoze despiser, I really appreciate Don continuing to unofficially support us Linux users. I have mentioned to Don before that when I was evaluating Win500 and PSREdit, I tried them both and the fact that Win500 worked great under Wine was the deciding factor for me choosing Win500. Thanks Don you don't have to, but you do. Thank you from all us Linux users.

I'm happy with Win500 the way it is, but a friend sent me a file and I can't open it because it says I don't have the newest version. Is it hard to upgrade, and would I have to re-enter
my key? I'm afraid to mess it up.

You don't have to re-enter your key.

Here is what I do when a new version comes out:

Open zip file in WinZip.
Check file listing for any files that are newer than the ones I already have.
Usually, the only new file is win500.exe.
Extract win500.exe only into my existing Win500 directory.
Change the version number in the Properties of the menu link.
Run Win500 once to verify the new version.

These steps prevent having to re-setup the configuration I use because I keep the old win500.ini file.

How do you delete all the object notes accumulated to date?
Right click on Notes header and select delete column.
That merely removes the column from the display. It has no effect on the data itself.

At present, the only way to delete the "Notes" data is to click on each "Notes" cell and hit the DELETE key on your keyboard.

That's darn technical for an old man to try.
I don't even think I have WinZip on my pc.

Thanks. That's what I was doing (deleting each entry). I hoped there would be a easier fix. Still...it's a GREAT program.

If you are running Window XP, there should be a zip program automatically included. I believe that to be the same with Vista. If not, you can do a Google search and I'm sure you will find a free program to do the same thing. WinZip is expensive for what little use you get out of it.

I also extract WinXXCommon.dll, to ensure Win500 references the latest library. Perhaps Don can chime in.
Extracting everything except the INI file would be the best bet. That would ensure that you have both the latest Win500.EXE and the latest DLL. DLL updates won't (shouldn't) hurt any other WinXX apps, and certainly won't affect any program settings (those are all in the programs' INI files).
