You're just as bad in your own way PB. Someone needs to get YOU as well but you are over 100 miles away from me and concern me very little.
There's also no reason to post 4-5 separate replies full of one and two word responses in this thread when one condensed reply would have worked jut fine and been easier on the rest of us.

Not one of you has bothered contacting me about any thing in this thread, and it's pretty obvious my contact information is public record. Hell, an amateur radio license guarantees that. Any court record such as a marriage, restraining order, etc is public record. You find it interesting what 'idiots will put in the web'. Try googling your name. You'd be surprised how many news articles you can bring up. Not to mention anything you have ever had to do with the legal system. Sometimes the real idiots are the ones who think there actually is real anonymity in the world today. People who are in law enforcement should know that.
After I spent a few hours reading comments on this forum, I realized that most of the people on here are simply flamers who don't like to get involved. Those who are out there trying to help things have gotten so cynical that they can't appreciate help when it is given.
The best thing I have seen on here is the tag line of car2back "The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." The sad thing is very very few on here seem to actually do anything other than complain. At least my wife and I are out there trying to help.
I don't have a desire to be a full LEO, as there is way too much bureaucratic bs, and too many morons. LEOs place themselves in danger quite often, and many times it is because of the incompetency of others. They must document everything they do for fear of lawsuit. They are forced to deal with some of the most incompetents arrogant a$$holes in town, and that's just their superiors at the station and city hall. Once they get out into the rest of the world, they realize that everyone hates and fears them. That is not a job I want, but I can respect those who have it, as they do the things that no one else wants to.
I do however have a desire to help those who need help, and to help make the roads safer. If no one gives a damn about anyone else, what kind of a world will we be living in? (Take a look outside, it's pretty close to that now)
As it has been said, I was a truck driver by trade, therefore I know first hand how dangerous the roads can be when the attention of drivers is not focused on driving. I do not try to enforce any laws, but I do try to warn fellow motorists of hazards until they can be removed, resolved, or the proper professionals arrive. I myself have been the victim of road debris. I have also been broke down on the side of the road with mechanical failure and had to work around my vehicle with traffic whizzing by with no regard.
In every instance where we have stopped to help others, they have been thankful that someone actually cared enough to make sure they were ok. They were grateful that we were able to alert traffic, so that traffic was less likely to hit them. In most instances they have called for help, but help has not arrived. Sometimes that was a friend or a spouse, other times it was for police or a tow truck.
Some times when we are at one of these scenes, we stay and help with traffic control to help the officers on scene. By helping in this way, we remove the burden of handling traffic from the officers, so they can concentrate on their witnesses and paperwork more effectively. Other times we leave when the professionals arrive on scene.
We do not go out of our way to find these incidents, but when we can we try to help.
As you can imagine we have encountered many law enforcement officers, and they have also been appreciative of the extra help. I have had officers very impressed with the car and wanting to see more. They are also thankful that we stay out of their way and let them do their job.
It was pointed out that I received a speeding ticket in July of '07. Ironically I was working as a volunteer for the Tulsa Tuf bike ride, and was en-route to relieve a radio operator who's radio was failing. There had been a large bike wreck nearby, and all the communication was causing the radio to over heat. I was trying to get there quickly, and was paying attention to the radio net while I was pulled over speeding. Yes I received a ticket for speeding, and no I am not above the law.
Next time you decide to rant and rave about someone on the internet, remember that there are real people out there. If you wouldn't say something to their face, what makes you think you have the right to say it in a forum? Personally I don't appreciate the comments about my wife. It seems that since everyone ran out of complaints they would switch to insults. That really speaks to your intelligence and ability to carry on a constructive conversation.
I guess the most disappointing thing is how Medic32 was someone we helped, and now he's bashing us just like everyone else. There were five vehicles involved in that accident. How many more could have been involved if no one had stopped to help?
Remember that the next time you see someone on the side of the road with a flat tire, or the next time you see a chair in the road. It could be you that's the victim. How would you feel if no body cared enough to help you?

Actually, the scanner went out about eight months ago. It was receiving noise on a lot of the 800mhz freq's I used to monitor, but generally it was clean on the VHF/UHF freq's I listen to. Then it stopped receiving those as well a couple weeks ago. I think it may be an internal issue. Performance also suffers due to heat. Such as when I get into the car at the end of the day. It went out at the end of the day during the Tulsa Tuf bike ride. Came in handy that day so I could monitor uhf, use the kenwood for vhf and aprs.
Course, I have now have a two mile drive to work now, and I generally listen to my ipod. Scanner usually stays off.
I've stopped many times in a civilian capacity to assist people with flat tires, engine trouble, remove debris from the roadway; and some how I've managed to do it without flashly lights, traffic vests, and an online "spotter log". No one's saying you shouldn't help people; It's just when you start trying to portray yourself as some sort of para-police autority figure that patrols the streets, you become a problem. You said you don't want to become a cop, but respect those that make the decision to follow that career path; awesome, there's no harm in that! Harry Truman once said, "If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen"- Let trained professional emergency responders do their job, that's what they're paid for!NameBrand said:Remember that the next time you see someone on the side of the road with a flat tire, or the next time you see a chair in the road. What happens when someone rounds a corner and smashes into your pretty "weather spotting" mobile? I know my attorney would have a hay-day in civil court while you try to explain what it is you're doing. I guess I missed that section of NIMS that talks about the role vigilante weather-spotter/ham radio operators play on an emergency scene....They must document everything they do for fear of lawsuit...
