There is no YOU getting them or ME getting them. O-L is in the business and he is in a position to get them. I do exactly what I did at the start of this thread. I pass on info and let other people who are in a position to do something about it make their own case.

You're just as bad in your own way PB. Someone needs to get YOU as well but you are over 100 miles away from me and concern me very little.

There's also no reason to post 4-5 separate replies full of one and two word responses in this thread when one condensed reply would have worked jut fine and been easier on the rest of us.

1. Agreed..

2. How I am only trying to be friendly

3. OK..

I seem to remember a conversation a while back where everyone wanted to jump on the bandwagon of griping about a neighbrhood watch vehicle with a flashing amber light. Why hasn't anyone griped about the flashing headlamps and rear flashing white lights on this vehicle? Heck...flashing lights in general?

I would be more confused about whether this Mustang is an authorized emergency vehicle than a 10 year old Ford Escort with an antique rotating amber light on it...

What I find the most interesting is the utter disrespect that all of you have for someone that you don't know, have never met, and don't care to. After all, it takes a big man to talk big and hide behind a keyboard, or as it's referred to here as "armchair quarterback"

Not one of you has bothered contacting me about any thing in this thread, and it's pretty obvious my contact information is public record. Hell, an amateur radio license guarantees that. Any court record such as a marriage, restraining order, etc is public record. You find it interesting what 'idiots will put in the web'. Try googling your name. You'd be surprised how many news articles you can bring up. Not to mention anything you have ever had to do with the legal system. Sometimes the real idiots are the ones who think there actually is real anonymity in the world today. People who are in law enforcement should know that.

After I spent a few hours reading comments on this forum, I realized that most of the people on here are simply flamers who don't like to get involved. Those who are out there trying to help things have gotten so cynical that they can't appreciate help when it is given.

The best thing I have seen on here is the tag line of car2back "The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." The sad thing is very very few on here seem to actually do anything other than complain. At least my wife and I are out there trying to help.

I don't have a desire to be a full LEO, as there is way too much bureaucratic bs, and too many morons. LEOs place themselves in danger quite often, and many times it is because of the incompetency of others. They must document everything they do for fear of lawsuit. They are forced to deal with some of the most incompetents arrogant a$$holes in town, and that's just their superiors at the station and city hall. Once they get out into the rest of the world, they realize that everyone hates and fears them. That is not a job I want, but I can respect those who have it, as they do the things that no one else wants to.

I do however have a desire to help those who need help, and to help make the roads safer. If no one gives a damn about anyone else, what kind of a world will we be living in? (Take a look outside, it's pretty close to that now)

As it has been said, I was a truck driver by trade, therefore I know first hand how dangerous the roads can be when the attention of drivers is not focused on driving. I do not try to enforce any laws, but I do try to warn fellow motorists of hazards until they can be removed, resolved, or the proper professionals arrive. I myself have been the victim of road debris. I have also been broke down on the side of the road with mechanical failure and had to work around my vehicle with traffic whizzing by with no regard.

In every instance where we have stopped to help others, they have been thankful that someone actually cared enough to make sure they were ok. They were grateful that we were able to alert traffic, so that traffic was less likely to hit them. In most instances they have called for help, but help has not arrived. Sometimes that was a friend or a spouse, other times it was for police or a tow truck.

Some times when we are at one of these scenes, we stay and help with traffic control to help the officers on scene. By helping in this way, we remove the burden of handling traffic from the officers, so they can concentrate on their witnesses and paperwork more effectively. Other times we leave when the professionals arrive on scene.

We do not go out of our way to find these incidents, but when we can we try to help.

As you can imagine we have encountered many law enforcement officers, and they have also been appreciative of the extra help. I have had officers very impressed with the car and wanting to see more. They are also thankful that we stay out of their way and let them do their job.

It was pointed out that I received a speeding ticket in July of '07. Ironically I was working as a volunteer for the Tulsa Tuf bike ride, and was en-route to relieve a radio operator who's radio was failing. There had been a large bike wreck nearby, and all the communication was causing the radio to over heat. I was trying to get there quickly, and was paying attention to the radio net while I was pulled over speeding. Yes I received a ticket for speeding, and no I am not above the law.

Next time you decide to rant and rave about someone on the internet, remember that there are real people out there. If you wouldn't say something to their face, what makes you think you have the right to say it in a forum? Personally I don't appreciate the comments about my wife. It seems that since everyone ran out of complaints they would switch to insults. That really speaks to your intelligence and ability to carry on a constructive conversation.

I guess the most disappointing thing is how Medic32 was someone we helped, and now he's bashing us just like everyone else. There were five vehicles involved in that accident. How many more could have been involved if no one had stopped to help?

Remember that the next time you see someone on the side of the road with a flat tire, or the next time you see a chair in the road. It could be you that's the victim. How would you feel if no body cared enough to help you?

None of your business what she was wearing under the dress.

Actually, the scanner went out about eight months ago. It was receiving noise on a lot of the 800mhz freq's I used to monitor, but generally it was clean on the VHF/UHF freq's I listen to. Then it stopped receiving those as well a couple weeks ago. I think it may be an internal issue. Performance also suffers due to heat. Such as when I get into the car at the end of the day. It went out at the end of the day during the Tulsa Tuf bike ride. Came in handy that day so I could monitor uhf, use the kenwood for vhf and aprs.

Course, I have now have a two mile drive to work now, and I generally listen to my ipod. Scanner usually stays off.

I've stopped many times in a civilian capacity to assist people with flat tires, engine trouble, remove debris from the roadway; and some how I've managed to do it without flashly lights, traffic vests, and an online "spotter log". No one's saying you shouldn't help people; It's just when you start trying to portray yourself as some sort of para-police autority figure that patrols the streets, you become a problem. You said you don't want to become a cop, but respect those that make the decision to follow that career path; awesome, there's no harm in that! Harry Truman once said, "If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen"- Let trained professional emergency responders do their job, that's what they're paid for!

...They must document everything they do for fear of lawsuit...
What happens when someone rounds a corner and smashes into your pretty "weather spotting" mobile? I know my attorney would have a hay-day in civil court while you try to explain what it is you're doing. I guess I missed that section of NIMS that talks about the role vigilante weather-spotter/ham radio operators play on an emergency scene.

What you're doing is ILLEGAL in the state of Oklahoma, and sooner or later it's going to catch up to you. I'd venture to guess sooner than later b/c you've recently attracted alot of attention withinthe NE-OK police community.

And just for grins, here's another local amatuer radio operator whacking out yesterday about 1100 S Peoria: http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q34/evaunit511/2007_07310246.jpg

Welcome to radioreference. There is nothing wrong with helping people, it is just the way you are doing it. When you pull up behind a car and hit your amber lights (that why they call you the amber whacker on other sites) do you know who you are pulling up behind?? Is it a bank robber or a little old lady?? My police car has many more lights than yours does but with all the strobes/led so forth I nearly get hit by some motorist. I you get hit how will you get to work?? Most insurance companies will not pay off so you are going to leave your family without transportation. When you pull up behind that car they don't know who you are. You are a very big guy. I am surprised that some one has not shot, pepper sprayed or done something to you. Much less you have Linsey in the car.
You post pictures and info about yourselves on the net. Yes it only took me five minutes to find out your names, where you live, your families addresses. Your lucky I am a good guy, But many out there are not. There are many lurkers out there , as I suspected you had been here. I work rape and stalking cases all the time off the net and these telephone chat lines. Many had no idea what could happen. It would of been easy to blur your license plate, After all you have have like what 5 computers?? That would of made it a lot harder to find out who you were. A web cam in your living room. What were you thinking?? Everything has been going out on the web. You all eating, playing video games, sleeping on the couch, you amusing yourself to linsey getting ready to get into the bathtub. All of it.
I mean it amazes me. They made you take the web cam down from watching the pool ( which the pool in your apt. complex I remember right is located next to the office...duh)
so you put it up invading your own wife's privacy. I believe you think mostly of your self. Living some sort of walter Mitty life. Thats fine if it were only you but it is not.

You drive 2 miles to work?? You cant still be a long haul driver...you never get of the couch long enough.

How in the world did you help me? Pulling up to a wreck a *3 Vehicle Wreck* not 5 and walking around with a scanner glued to your ear and taking pictures of the wrecked cars does not contitute as help. And with you stopping to help I figured there was going to be one more invlolved...

That hoopty would belong to Scotty Mayes with a callsign of KE5DTZ. Are those RED and BLUE lights I see on that Vector? Can TPD not see this vehicle driving around town? Sheesh.
You mean the Scotty Mays on the bottom left of page 2 here?

Or perhaps the one at the top of page 4 here (Volunteer of the month)?

Yeah, he's a dangerous guy. ;) Next time you see him you should ask him about his van, I'm sure he'll tell you anything you want to know - including where he got those nice lights.

That's not the point Tom. The guy is whacking out. There is no way to justify or defend that ride.

I don't care what kind of goofy title he holds, I can guarantee you that he has about as much business having a red and blue Vector on his van as you do driving around in an old surplus ambulance and picking up patients and running them into the hospitals just because you're an EMT.

So you think because he has something to do with CERT that he's allowed to have red and blue lights on his van? ROFL! Get out of town man, you're not serious are you?

First, I don't have that problem I have AAA and a county radio!!!
Second, if you stop to help me at night and don't have the proper red/blue lights and vehicle markings and identification you just might get yourself shot.

Ummm, leave it to the professionals, Fire/EMS/Police/Highway Response or even AAA. Come back when you've had some training...Or you'll be starting a new non-glamors, low paying career as a hood ornament...
