For those of you who's browser settings are preventing you from opening up the links in the FCC website, Here is a front view pic of the RS Pro 18 (from the FCC website; cropped and downscaled to fit forum attachment size limitations).

Personally, I don't care for for the design at all. I think it looks too much like an iPod (it looks like RS is trying to copy Apple's 'form-over-function' style) . And with no separation between buttons I can imagine getting very frustrated by constantly pressing the wrong buttons.

I usually like the Radio Shack versions better, but in this case I think the PSR-800 has a better looking and more user-friendly button layout than the Pro-18.

Pro 18 digital scanner

Am I missing something here?? I've read all that I could find about this scanner and I still don't see how it is better than the Pro 106 or the GRE equivalent. If I am correct in this (and I feel that I am) then why are they even coming out with this?? Why not just make a better Pro 106?? I am totally lost on this.

Who said it was supposed to be "better"?

I don't believe it has ever been advertised as an upgrade to the Pro106. The Pro18 is geared toward a different user base. It is a pre-programmed "ez-scan" model, designed for the 'every-day' user who feels that traditional high-end scanners are too complex.

That being said; Assuming it has the same decoding capabilities as the PSR-800, then it will have the ability to decode TDMA systems (which currently no other scanner on the market can do), so it will technically be an upgrade for some people, but for that feature alone, not because of it's ez-scan design.

So - what's the delay in this coming out? I've have and enjoy the PSR-800, but might pick up a PRO-18 on sale for a second radio to keep in the car. All of the features they are reportedly leaving off the PRO-18 are things I don't use on my PSR-800. I hear that GRE may be coming out with a mobile version of the PSR-800, so perhaps RS will have a version of that too?

Maybe it was the same problem with the paint peeling off the case as the PSR800 so there going with a better front part of the case??

I still think its some of the problems concerning the PSR800=paint peeling, freezing up on TG's, etc....Most likely you would think they would have a revised case with out paint peeling by now....No word from GRE like Paul from Uniden??....He is really on the ball!!

Hey guys, I just looked into our internal system here at the store. The SKU is now ACTIVE! I can't post the page because its an internal page and really not in the mood to get fired. I can tell you that inventory has not been set yet as as which store will carry it but it is available to order. Call your local store and have them check Direct2U for sku 2000018. Retail is 399.99.

Know what I am buying next payday.

Any details on what is included in the box?

The reason I ask is that the GRE branded radios [traditionally] come with at least a data cable (and often include other accessories as well), but the RS versions are pretty much sold "bare-bones". The $400 price tag may not be a bargain compared to the PSR-800 if it is packaged like the Pro-106. I assume it will include the EZ-Scan software (or a modified RS variant of it).

I am guessing it will just be the antenna, usb cable and software. Won't know for sure until Ft. Worth updates our product info page...or I get one instock, whichever happens first.

Honestly, for those who are on the budget,no this is not a needed addition, you can score a 106 on the bay for under 300,in a lot of cases you can score one for in the hood of 250..and the 106 will give you the radio IDs..

as far as the 18 VS the 800,,for the hundred bucks, ill get the 800,more memory,recording,p25 trunking
and the x2TDMAadvancement.
not that TDMA is needed,or wide spread at this point, but it will be..and ahead is the best place to be,for myself anyhow..

I agree on the PSR-800 but the hundred bucks difference? CheapHam.com is only $30.00 more then what he stated and free shipping...
