i was generally ballparking,various sources,400 to 479 i think i saw,on the highend..

the sentiment still persists though,,lateral buys, for me is a pointless exercise,,.

i'd probably go with the gre version just because for the extra 30 bucks you get the full package not the scaled back version. I do have one question. Someone posted you can score a pro 106 in the hood for 250.00. what hood might that be because I think those around me arent that skilled as it's new or the classifieds here on RR.com. i wouldn't spend the cash to buy new from the shack again, but depending on condition, I might for about 1/2 price of less spring for a used one

yes it is. RS has a 30 day price guarantee so if is does go on sale in that period of time, you will get a refund of the difference plus tax.

I have the scanner in hand, here is my first report.

Good, 4 AA batteries
Bad, Micro SD card
Good, do not have to remove the SD card to update LIB or make Config changes.
Bad, data transfer takes a long time through the USB port
Good, connector on radio is mini USB so I have many cables I can use to power and interface to computer with
Good, 100 play lists
Bad, software would not load from autorun on one of my Windows 7 home computers (have not tested on the other one.
Good, was able to load software by going to the CD and running the program as administrator
Good, software loaded with no problem on a Vista home machine
Good, Reception is great so far
Good, audio is clear.

Some bad news. Looks like the retail went up another $100. It now lists for $499.99. I hope its an error and it is remedied before I recieve it at my store or it goes up for sale on the website.

I doubt its a typo, it is probably just Radio Shack being Radio Shack...

You can get some good deals at RS when items are on sale or discontinued, but their 'regular' prices on most items make you wonder how they are still in business ( e.g. they charge $600 for a Uniden 396XT :roll: ).

They probably don't expect to sell too many at that price, but people will be fooled into thinking they're getting a good deal when the $100 sale comes along, and buy them.

Microsoft killed autorun a while back, fyi. That's also not related to running the program as an administrator either (that could be a compatibility thing).
