Since I updated my 800 with the 7-25-12 cpu update I have had nothing but troble with my radio! First it will not pic up P 25 after about 30 minutes. If you turn it off turn it back on you will get another 30 minutes. no radio id some times it will show on P 25's when its picking them up. also I use the led so I can look over from accross the room and see who is talking and now as it scans it continues to flash the last color I have set for the last channel it was stopped on. As soon as it pics up another TG that has another color set it continues to flash that color as it scans. I have tried factory reset and a complete start over and it is still going on.So basicly the last CPU update made it completely useless. unless you want to baby sit it to turn it off and on.

Have you opened a trouble ticket with GRE? Sounds like that should be your next step.

I really wish we could see the frequencies in the scan list tab. I also really wish we could print out the conventional frequency list. I noticed today many of my conventional frequencies were NFM when they are not supposed to be. Also record turned on for many for no reason too. It would be easier if I could print a hard copy to know what they were in case some change again then I will know the original settings.

Tilt404, you could try a print-screen. If you can figure out how to get windows to print it.

Use Windows Paint

Use the print screen, then go to Windows PAINT. Paste the image into (EDIT>PASTE) and then you can print it. Be sure to adjust the paper size so to accomondate the entire screen at one time.

I'm also having some issues with my PSR-800 after updating to the latest firmware (Boot Ver: F1.0 Appl Ver: U1.6).

I can't seem to decode any P25 signals unless I connect the 800 directly to an Aeroflex 3920 and generate that way. I've got a P25 VHF signal coming in at -80 dBm (aprox. 20uv) and the PSR-800 won't even attempt to decode it (but the Aeroflex test set will); the PSR-800 will decode the P25 generating from the Aeroflex at -105 dBm

I've tried multiple different settings (NFM, FM, NAC, NAC search etc) and nothing seems to be helping. And it's not just the -80 dBm signal I mentioned, it's any P25 signal.

I've already submitted a ticket to GRE, hopefully they can get this fixed soon.

After speaking with reps from GRE America, downgrading the firmware on the PSR-800 is not possible; I'll have to send the unit in.

yes i know, but with over 1000 conventional freqs i'm not going to go through all that trouble just because gre is too lazy to put a print option.

You can only downgrade to the last public firmware release, removing the public beta firmware. Upgrading to the last public firmware release caused my issues (I think) and there is no way to downgrade to previous releases.

My PSR-800 is struggling to decode a P25 conventional signal right now, but the PRO-106 (PSR-500) right next to it is working just fine (VHF P25 at -70dBm).

Mine seems to struggling, as well. Since the upgrade P25 decode is drawn out with beeps and burps. I can understand it most of the time but it is very annoying. I prefer to keep the P2 part and don't want to go back but need the voice issue addressed.

Make sure you downgrade both the CPU and DSP firmware or it will have problems... At least that's what I've seen here.

Thanks for the heads up Mike, but my "lack of P25 decode" started after I upgraded in August to the latest public firmware. I'm currently running phase 2 upgrade 2 and that hasn't helped at all. I'll be shipping the PSR-800 back to GRE America later this week, hopefully they can troubleshoot the issue.

Well I guess I'm ready to pull the trigger on a PSR 800 from HRO , but...

How necessary is it to update the CPU and DSP since P25 phase 2 isn't active here yet?
I'm reading about users having issues with P25 reception after the updates are done? I understand the importance of using the SD card in a reader and plugged into your pc rather than the USB cable, to prevent anomalies but can updates be done this way as well? Also I assume it's suggested to charge the ni-mh batteries in a external charger such as with the PSR 500?
The best price I have found fyi- is through HRO for $399 with free shipping, unless someone has better sources?

Thanks,

It isn't ... it just provides the Phase 2 capability.

If you don't have Phase 2, you don't need it. On the other hand, you should always keep your software/firmware current.... but that is your choice.

I agree, which I have done with my pro-197 and 106 but if the upgrades associated with the PSR 800 result in additional issues then I guess that's a grey area.
Because of sketchy operation reported by some users, I'm starting to research a little more on the 396xt but then there are some issues with it ,so it seems.
Decisions...

I noticed a new setting that wasn't documented in the changelog. It is near the bottom of the settings menu and says "Trim Logs". I can imagine that it would cut out unnecessary data from the P25 logfiles. Does anyone know about this undocumented feature?

I'd like to know about it too. Doesn't seem to do anything. The log files are still there and the same size as before 'trimming', at least for P25 and conventional logs. And yes, I have 'to file' checked in the scanner.

So what does it do? Maybe Don knows something (please).
