More testing today on law enforcement groups today. Logged 10 RID's with 42XXYY format. Appears that "42" will be LE, "XX" will be agency, and "YY" will be unit number.

Talk groups logged were 205, 207, 208, 209, 210 and 212, most traffic was on 210. Radio repair heard calling 705 (423375) to return to have mobile radio programmed. Short time late 423375 was testing as NGPD 705. I suspect that TG 207 will be NGPD as they are "Zone 7" on the county plan.

Also picked up a new group ID of 1005, maybe county wide law?

I was trying to monitor for RIDs last night during the 2-alarm fire in Valley Falls. 2 scanners via attic-mounted discone and active multicoupler. Home Patrol 2E - no reception at all. BCD536 - 2 bars, incomprehensibly choppy voice when anything was received at all.

Rensselaer is still a black hole for the system.

Black Hole

Rensselaer is only a black hole for scanners. Commercial radio equipment works just fine, from Motorola P25 portable (XTS5000) to Unication G5 VHF/800 pager. No issues. Receives system loud and clear in Rensselaer, as well as the rest of the County. You need to get a Unication . . . There is a dealer just up the road in Glens Falls. They are selling like hot cakes.

I have no intention of buying an expensive extra radio just for one outlier radio system. The MultiNet, bad as it was, put a better signal into many places. My 800 MHz Yagi brought the MN system up tremendously, and helps the Albany County P25 system as well, but does practically nothing for the Rensco P25 system.

Looks like North Greenbush went live today with talkgroup 210 and RID's 4233XX.

They were testing earlier in the morning with I believe portables. Numerous dead spots reported and there also appeared to be issues with the lapel mics. Heard several units testing with audio problems, then retest with "mic removed"..

By early afternoon, they were using 210 and 155.595 was quite.

Thanks for the update! I did hear a North Greenbush unit letting dispatch know that he experienced a dead spot earlier today but didn’t make anything of it.

Logged two new RID's that are a little outside of the numbering pattern seen, 2369130 and 2761867. Only recorded a few hits each. Maybe out of county units?
Did you happen to catch a tgid I tried monitoring today but was to busy with work

The log shows no TGID on either hit, both were logged yesterday. .
Ok I was just wondering if these were part of either the county le going online or troy fire testing. I only mention troy fire because they were doing testing on TFD channel 2 yesterday and today.

Troy has a station number (39) assigned under the county system, and I would assume that they would use it as part of the RID assignment.

As for LE, I suspect everything will follow the format I mentioned earlier, 42XXYY.

I see this system listed as a p25 phase 2 system.

All the traffic I have seen appears to be phase 1.

Is there a reason they use phase 1, is phase 2 not an improvement technically?

Depends on what the customer purchased. Phase II costs more than Phase I. Additionally maybe they plan to put subscribers on that are only P1 capable ?

Lots of reasons.

Most new systems seem to advertise phase 2 on the control channel, even if it’s 100% phase 1. I think RR’s policy is to list as phase 2 if it advertises itself as such.

Rensselaer County's new P 25 System is all Phase 1.

The County is establishing a base line of TFD's UHF System coverage.

There are no Phase 2 indications being transmitted by the system. I think the P2 information comes from related emission codes on the FCC license, which only indicate that someone has received authorization to use it (and whatever other emissions have been included). It might never actually be installed.
