This seems to be relevant to this thread. I apologize if I am incorrect.

Mechanicville EMS and Fire will no longer be dispatched frequently on 155.205. Saratoga County is no longer capable of transferring 911 calls originating in Mechanicville to the Mechanicville PD dispatch center, so instead Saratoga County will be dispatching MFD and John Ahearn Rescue Squad on 155.925 as well as the new trunked system.

MFD will be retoned by the Mechanicville dispatcher upon receipt of a call from the county. JARS will only be toned by Mechanicville dispatch if a call is received by them directly over their 7 digit phone line.

EMS units will be using 155.205 to communicate receipt of call, en route, arrival, transporting, arriving hospital, clear of hospital, and back in district. They will use the county system to confirm a response, and then not again until the unit is clear of the hospital, and again when it is back in district.

I am not sure how the FD will be using the county system, but they will be advising the county of response and in service times at a minimum.

Help with Uniden 396-XT

Hi everyone.
I've been reading the forum, and have read the wiki info as well to learn what I could.
I'm trying to set up a Uniden 396XT to scan the Saratoga County 800 system. I've been trying all sorts of settings with iffy results.

Can anyone tell me what settings to use to scan this system?

Should I be using all the tower sites, or just the ones closest to me? I'm in southern Saratoga County.
I have the USB cable, and I have freescan.

Currently I have all the towers loaded, and I have all the talkgroups except the encrypted ones.

I have it set as p-25 standard for the system, I use ID scan, The p-25 low-pass filter is set on.

I had tried the radio shack pro-106 but found that too much was garbled and returned that unit. I know I saw comments in the thread somewhere that some folks found the uniden much better than the 106 (while I know some seem to prefer the 106).

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

re: 396XT programming

Thanks for the help. What type of system is this? I think I saw someone say it is a Motorola 800 Type 1 system, but I can't seem to get anything when I use that setting. When I use P-25 standard, then I get some reception.

The system comes in from RR as a Motorola Type 2 system- is that the correct system?

This is very frustrating.

Its a phase 1 system. you on to have to put in the control channels and alternate channels.for a motorala system. Make sure you have rebanded the scanner first and set the p25 to AUTO. If you hear the buzzing sound of the control channel, you havent done it right. also go to a roam setting first then try a stationy setting
You have to read the manual and know something about the trunking system. the new scanners are a whole new ballgame/

You are confusing the issue by mentioning P25 and Motorola in the same instruction.

P25 is APCO Project 25 digital trunking.

Motorola is Type 1, Type 2, Type 2i, and Hybrid analog trunking. Motorola Type 2 and later systems might have some digital talkgroups.

The Saratoga County system is pure P25 simulcast. For programming, the fact that it is simulcast really makes no difference. For monitoring, it can make things very difficult. From the perspective of a scanner, the system's various tower sites interfere with each other.

OK, I've read the manuals a few times (uniden and the "easier" version, and have been playing around with settings for days.
when I select this as a standard p25 system (in freescan) it doesn't give me the option to reband. that only comes up if I select it as a motorola type II system.

I've downloaded the setup files from radioreference. Is there something I need to change in what is downloaded? Is it the APCO25 band plan tab that I need to make changes on?
Or do I need to make changes on the trunk frequencies tab?

I thought that the download from RR was supposed to be pretty much ready to go.

thanks again for the help so far.

Rebanding is irrelevant for P25 systems. Forget about it. Again, P25 is not Motorola.

I have been monitoring the system looking for new groups.

I verified that 8110 is encrypted, but no idea who it is.

I heard 8211- dispatcher calling Clifton Park SP unit 2G37, so this may be a backup to the SP VHF or an alternate police group.

2211 Heard, but no ID given

3212 Heard, but no ID given, possible Fire Police channel 2

I posted this to the new info section as well.

Dave,

are you logging all the time using the Pro96Com software ?

I do not know how to use that software or even if I can while running the Win500 software.

I would like to see what units are using these groups I found to try and confirm the talkgroups.

E-mail me,

Thanks

I'm not logging full time. I occasionally use the receiver and computer for other things that are not compatible with doing that.

I still have weak signal / excess signal problems, so I don't always see the RID when a talkgroup is assigned.

What equipment is needed to run the logger ?

Does it take a digital scanner , or can I use a non-digital scanner to log using your Pro96Com software ?

Do I need a discrim tap ?

Thanks

PRO96COM works with digital scanners that output certain data via PC interface port.

These include the PRO-96/2096, the Uniden digitals, and the GRE digitals.

Mechanicville Dispatch

Just a couple of things. The EMS and FD frequency is 155.250 and not 155.205 (typo ?) and the problem with 911 was not that the county could not transfer 911 down to the city but the fact that the city had a 911 phone at the station which needed to be upgraded. I believe the cost was around 300 grand and the city does not have the money so they had do do away with the phone and let the calls ring directly to the county. They will not transfer to a non 911 phone so thats why they are compelled to do the dispatching. The pagers they have are two channel scanning minitor fives with 155.250 and 155.925 in them so either the county or city can activate them. Waterford is still using the old 911 equipment until it breaks and saratoga springs bought the new 911 upgrade.

I think it is the beginning of the end for the local dispatch centers within the county. The State Police relocated the zone dispatch to ComSec, Corinth dispatch closed a while back (and the the village police dept later) and then Ballston Spa closed their dispatch. The county has said they will dispatch any of the agencies for free so the bean counters are having a tough time justifying paying for their own dispatchers and related equipment when the county will do it.

TGID 212 may have changed

On 1-6-12, I heard 12 transmission on TGID 212 and they were all C&O units and every time they spoke they would give thier ID and say "On TAC-11"

So, I am pretty sure 212 is now TAC-11, or else they were all mistaken on what channel they were on, which could be the case, I don't know how much info the radios display.

I think it is just a knob they are turning and there is no actual text display on the radio.

Can anyone confirm this ?

Thanks

Bill

I would think that they were on the wrong TG. It happens. Often. :)

If 212 is TAC-11, the C/O Team, then was is 211 which was labeled as TAC-11 Hazmat, is that TAC-10 ?
And 213 is labeled as TAC-13 Co-ordinators, does that change as well ? Maybe that becomes TAC-12 ?

It would be nice if there was a public document that detailed the radio plan for the county.

I searched and found lots of info, but nothing that details the exact TGID's

Thanks
