Central Ohio Interoperable Radio System (COIRS) was the system in the video, which is not a simulcast system. I listen to this system on my G4 and it is a lot clearer. MARCS was briefly displayed, but the audio was definitely COIRS, a.e. 'DELCOM' (Delaware County Fire).

Send me one to beta test in Columbus' Simulcast Hell, and on my trips to Cincinnati and Dayton. I could even test it on my feed where everyone could hear it.

Yes, COIRS is simulcast.

There are two sites, Delaware County and Dublin/Worthington/Hilliard. Both are simulcast. The DubWorHil site is more strung out, so you have a better chance of hearing only one site at a time.

Is the battery pack a done deal ? Can you re consider that part ? or is there a optional AA holder ,..its just that we have all been down the battery pack road before & it's a pain , the packs are usually expensive , & not as convenient as just being able to go anywhere & get your own cells & properly charge them yourself with a real smart charger , which is probably something most people buying this level of radio want to do & are capable of , & then if you keep the radio a long time you cant find the packs anymore & you are taking the things apart & trying to solder in your own cells ,its just a pain ,..just make it AA batteries .that i can get locally ..or even 18650's or something I can easily get on ebay or amazon ..because its like the cost of another upgrade ,..the battery pack

I would be curious to know how the SDS100 compares to the Unification G4/G5 on simulcast sites. For $699.00 not including upgrades, I hope it does better.

One G4 owner said it sounds as good. Not sure about better since some claim the G4 audio is nearly perfect.

Looking forward to hearing more real world user feedback.

Overall I think this is a good thing that Uniden is still developing products, Hopefully Uniden is thinking about the SDS100 replacement, the next radio at this point or better yet have a few things in the works.

Seems to be an overall improvement, maybe not what everyone wants, but new products are a good thing.

Hope to see a base/mobile version with some sort of smaller form factor remote head or low latency Bluetooth to allow use of a smart phone or tablet.

For the record I am a Uniden fanboy. Uniden is all I have ever owned. Really nice looking scanner and I like the display. It would be nice if it had built in GPS. Everything has built in GPS nowadays. I think it has to do with greed. It would take away from their profits. This is the same reason why they have gone with this model of asking for more money to unlock modes. I feel like I am being nickel and dimed. Seriously you could sell these things for $600 and they are going to make somewhere around $500-$400 profit per scanner. Maybe more. But these corporate types are just never happy. Oh well

Upman: Hopefully this doesn't get lost in the "discussion scatter". . .

While in Louisville, if you can, as you leave the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center, please take the scanner out to Preston Highway (KY61) and drive south to the Gene Snyder Expressway (I-265). Preston Highway is a real bad place for simulcast distortion. If you get clear audio on the new scanner versus no/garbled audio on the 436 on the MetroSafe system, you have a winner.

Thanks!

The reason why they charge for digital modes is that Uniden has to pay royalties to DVSI to use that technology in their scanners, so blame DVSI for their greed.
It's either that or charge $1000, which would likely negatively impact their sales and force me to pay extra for ProVoice (or other unwanted modes for some people)

It's not out of the realm of possibility that DVSI required them to do it this way.
As far as their profit margin is concerned, who knows, but it needs to be worth it for them to design and manufacture.

The unit is already the size of a typical detachable faceplate. They just put everything in the faceplate.

With a detachable faceplate - that would smack it clear out of the ballpark.

Yes, they need to take a cue from Whistler's playbook and make the front faceplate similarly detachable (with magnets or some easy way of mounting it) and connect with a simple CAT5 (or similar) cable. I wouldn't even care if it was a little "taller" than the 996xt/996P2/536HP to accommodate the display and buttons (soft keys below display, others on each side). Maybe like the size of a Kenwood D710 or Icom 5100 control head...or somewhere between them.

But, that's a future radio and not the SDS100 we're talking about here...sorry, got distracted.
