I noticed the ad copy said "8 hour battery life"

How much are additional lithium-ion battery packs? I love the idea of quickly swapping batteries out instead of messing with AA's.

How loud is the speaker? The 436HP was a step-back from the 396XT in terms of loudness. I hope this baby is LOUD with low distortion. Sometimes the waterproofing muffles speakers..I hope that is not the case.

Due to U.S. Government regulations I doubt the SDR part of the scanner will be DC to Daylight? That's too bad.

I hope this gets released by the end of June. (my birthday!)

The reason why they charge for digital modes is that Uniden has to pay royalties to DVSI to use that technology in their scanners, so blame DVSI for their greed.
It's either that or charge $1000, which would likely negatively impact their sales and force me to pay extra for ProVoice (or other unwanted modes for some people)

It's not out of the realm of possibility that DVSI required them to do it this way.
As far as their profit margin is concerned, who knows, but it needs to be worth it for them to design and manufacture.

How much are the royalties? I could understand passing on that cost but cmon. A scanner does not cost much to make. Unit cost is probably less than $100 per scanner. So $100 from $699 that's $599 profit. Isn't that enough?

Seriously? That lacked most of the most important features and didn't accurately reflect the design in several important ways (especially the display representation).

Speaking of Display representation, do we have a menu option to increase the font size to make it easier to read for us visually challenged person(s). We passed on the HP436 as the font size in the display was too small.

Thank You.

Actually the spec sheet says "Up to 8 Hours Operation". It's not a killer, but I was hoping the new battery would be up to 12 hours. UPMan did post that the battery is interchangeable and an external charger was in the works.

So far, in multiple environments on multiple systems, the SDS100 has performed as good or better than either Unication pagers or duty radios, sitting side by side.

You looking for any beta testers? I'm in Northern California (San Jose Area). Plenty of P25 Phase II stuff. I have a BCD536HP, Whistler TRX-2, Unity XG-100P, Unication G5, Harris 7500 EDACS, XTL5000, and XTS2500 to compare with.

Kudos to Uniden. Sad to see so many negative comments and so much complaining. If LSM is now properly demodulated, this will be one of the most revolutionary scanners ever made. UPman never made claims about LSM performance on previous scanners, so the fact that he is doing so here says a lot. $699 for something that works as well as a Unication and is a true scanner is amazing. A few on here bashing Uniden and saying they aren't interested, yet have owned every scanner made in the last decade are full of it. They will all buy one, and complain in the meantime. The radio community never fails to amaze me.

The $699 price is MSRP. It will probably sell for less. Scanner Master has the 436HP list price at $599. Actual price is less.

Yeah as someone mentioned seems pricey but then realized my old RS Pro-96
was $499 on sale at Radio Shack about 20 years ago...
look forward to this one..

Look up the price of a Pro-668 on radio shack's website. And that scanner lacks a keypad...

Why doesn't Apple sell the iPhone10 for $200. It probably costs $100 to make?

It's called capitalism. They aren't going to give them away. If people are going to pay $700 for the SDS, as I gladly will, why would they sell them for $400? The 436 was $500+ when it first came out, IIRC.

.......back on topic.

I was hoping one of the LEDs above the display where actually a light sensor to automaticly adjust the display brightness when you come out in the sunshine after being in a shaded area.

You have that on the simplest mobile phone and also an automatic sound level control would be useful that uses a mic to samples the surrounding background level to adjust the volume level. Almost all car stereos use that feature to give usuable volume levels in both freeway traffic and when stopping at a red light.

Hopefully the recording function will save all parameters like trunked frequency and sites and of course the actual date and time of each recording.

The search function could use a setting for store and lockout to not record the same interference over and over again.

The reverse and repeater find features should absolutly be configurable the same way that stepsize and mode are free to set to any value in the bandplan.

If there are extra IF filter and WFM discrimitor chip put onto the circuit board for FM broadcast reception those could be scrapped. All mobile phones already have that and of course all cars have FM stereos. Use that space for an additional extra receiver with reduced sensitivity with a crude front end filter to silently sample priority frequencies with analog carrier/CTCSS/ firetone decoding. Even those small tiny chinese radios have double VFOs.

I hope this scanner manages to keep the delay time for a DMR talk group and not ignore it and immediately jump to the other timeslot and starts monitoring that TG and ignore its delay as well.

The I/Q demodulation looks promising to finally stop the false decoding of TGs in DMR systems.
But the graphical signal strenght indicator are still too optimistic, indicating three bars with almost the lowest signal level possible. But then comes the dBm digits to the rescue. I hope there is an accesable service mode to adjust that and to tailor the bass/treble and analog/digital audio levels to your personal taste.

I wouldn't expect anything less with that kind of asking price.

Did you want a side of sausage links with that order?

That right there is one hell of a claim I’d like to test. I’ll tell you in a few hours testing it on 7 different systems. I’ll even test it side by side with an APX, XTS, GRE PSR-800, Unication G5 and 436. Looks like UpMan is strutting like a peacock.

I'm right with you phirephoto. Im in San Jose and would love to be a beta tester. Keep us in mind Upman. I have a G5 and if the SDS100 is equal or better than the G5, i would gladly switch over.

It was hard to compare to the Unication. I had to turn off most of what I was scanning on the SDS100 to make a fair comparison.

And the feathers are just glistening with sarcasm. Lmao
