I have a friend in Wellsburg and he gets a solid signal. May guess is it is pointed south. I would be West of the tower and that's why the signal is weak on my end.

Brooke County SIRN radios down?

I'm getting no traffic and don't see any signal on the control channel. I know that some of the recent posters here can receive this system. Are any of you also having problems with Brooke? If not, I must have an equipment problem.

Weirton control channel has changed to 460.1625. The signal from my work is weaker than the previous CC 453.425

Thanks! That got me running again. Is there a way to configure my DSD+ so that it can automatically handle radio system changes like this? Without your quick reply I'd still be down.

Ok, just an update as of Friday morning the Weirton tower is much stronger. Maybe they finally increased the power output.

I was listening yesterday to Brooke Ambulance and Sheriff. The mobile units sounded fine, but dispatch was horrible. I guess they need to do some tweaking.

One reason people may no longer be receiving the Weirton site is that the Weirton CC did recently change which normally shouldn't be a problem, however, the new CC frequency that is actively being used by the site is not listed in this website's database as a possible alternate CC... I was going to submit that info last week but all my submissions get ignored so I no longer bother.... FWIW The Sistersville CC also changed the same day but that site is actively using its listed alternate.....

As for the Brooke audio issue, yea I'm glad it's not just me...... "Brooke County EMS" dispatch is so annoyingly loud and at times so obnoxiously squealy that I couldn't take it anymore and had to lock it out.. . "Wetzel County 911" dispatch is ungodly loud as well but other than that it sounds ok

I see a bunch new TG for Ohio County, any idea what the new tac channels are for, and Im Guessing EMA now has there own TG for there daily ops. Also is anybody who is linked on site 5 (Weirton) having issues receiving Ohio County?

Don't believe you will hear much of Ohio Co. except for Ohio Co. law and or fire when they are close to the Northern county line

I just locked out Wheeling PD #2191 tonight. I had started getting traffic from them. I'm getting good signal from ohio Co. I'm also a lucky person that has a rooftop antenna located on one of the highest hills in Brooke Co.

Those new talkgroups are not really new channels (other than the OVRTA bus channel), rather, they are just newly discovered...
Ohio County EMA does not ever use their channel for business or during typical incidents as they always use Ohio County Fire Dispatch and occasional communications on the county/city fire tac channels.. I'm sure, however, that during a major or mass casualty incident they may use one or more of their other channel options.
I log and check all activity on the Ohio County Site and I have never seen a single hit on either of those newly listed tac channels (which both correspond to county fire Tacs 3 and 4 on the standard SIRN plan.)..

Like n8jsw said, If you want to hear dependable radio traffic from Ohio County agencies you would need to monitor the Ohio County simulcast because the Weirton tower is typically too far away from Ohio County for any Ohio County radio to associate with it.... Only if an OC SIRN user has a radio tuned to an OC channel and travels into northern Brooke will that specific OC talkgroup link up with the Weirton tower and thus become active and able to be heard on the Weirton site.

Thanks for the response. Im learning more and more on this, if the Weirton site was to join on to the Ohio County Simulcast would the mean better signal for Ohio County up north?

If they merge Weirton and Ohio Co. then yes you would hear Brooke, Ohio, and Marshall Counties. I don't believe they will cause it might cause a strain on the system. But i have seen stranger things
