I was talking to one of the commanders of an agency that is dispatched by Kane Co Sheriff. They are expecting to cut over soon if not this week possibly. They also stated that they were going to have to purchase their own radios at $6K a piece and $35 a month user fee. They would only be able to budget for 4 radios for the officers on duty. The radios they going to be using are are on loan for the rest of the year at that time they can choose to go with Starcom or stay on the VHF as they were not planning on taking that system down.

...and which agency is this?

Getting this thread back on track...

Appears that NERCOM PD has gone encrypted sometime between Monday and Thursday. So there goes Fox River Grove, Harvard, Johnsburg, McHenry, Marengo, Union, and Woodstock. Ironic the only agencies not encrypted in McHenry County anymore are the ones dispatched by the county that were for those few years.

Main talkgroups 3451 and 3459 are. The alternates aren't encrypted which is...an interesting choice.

Evening,
Im programming some random dispatch console's RIDs/UIDs into my SDS1 right now. Going through the DuPage County RIDs and theres some listed as agency dispatch but thoose agencies are dispatched by Ducom or ACDC. But anyway by it saying "<agency name> dispatch" would that be the agency that dispatches them?

Not sure who edited it like that otherwise I'd DM them.

Thanks in advance.

SEECOM’s alternates (Locals, some TAC, and Events) are still unencrypted, it’s been a year and a half since they enabled it on dispatch.

NERCOM switched everyone to their respective East and West TACs Tuesday morning, and they were operating there until reprogramming was completed Friday afternoon. Unlike SEECOM, they went 100% silent all together, rather than starting with field units and then eventually dispatch.

As of now, yes alternates are still clear, but I assume that will change. Sheriff Prim has been against Encryption, though given he’s retiring, the new Sheriff may choose to encrypt them as well. Only time will tell.

Some (most? all?) of the RIDs in question may no longer be in use. DU-COMM and ACDC are currently the only public safety dispatch centers left in DuPage County (other than Naperville).

Learned somethin today, All ISP Dispatch channels are labeled as District #-Channel (Ex. District 1 Dispatch A is 1-A, District 10 Dispatch A is 10-A.) on the dispatch consoles, portables, and vehicle radios. Does not apply to Districts 15 & Chicago. Not major just though I'd share.

Great info! I found this a few years ago and it gives insight into the "standard" programming on some Starcom radios, or at least what it was over a decade ago :)

Keep an eye on the IIFOG too, available via IEMA's website. Most recent version is December 2020, gets updated every couple years. This latest version has added a nice list of ham repeaters for AuxComm by county. Good way to keep up with the statewide and federal interop channels as well (low band is NOT completely dead!) and the last 2 editions now have included some talkgroup numbers that have helped identify some things on the system.

There are also regional tactical communications plans, but they are extremely difficult to find. About 7 years ago I was doing a project for an internship where the Chicago/Cook County plan would've GREATLY helped and no one seemed to have a copy of it, but it definitely exists since it has been referenced in state documents.

Just heard TG 34054 (no ENC) on Site 1-002 in Phase II. This is the CPD Zone 7 patch used by University of Chicago Police.

I have searched around but have not found any specific info on which tollways are dispatched by which of the 3 ISP district 15 dispatch talkgroups. does anyone have any insight on where the line is between north/middle south?

Along the same lines, I assume that patroll of the tollways is shared between District 15 and the local ISP District for a given stretch of the toll road? Ie, if I am driving I90 toward Rockford, District 2 as well as 15 dispatch apply...if Im on I88 passing Rochelle both Dist 1 and 15 are relavent?

15-N (9098) is everything north of I-88
15-S (9099) is I-88 & South.
Same goes for ITHA Maintenance.

As far as other districts, they can patrol the tollways but D2 is the only district that dosn't patrol the tollway as often. District 1 is constanly patroling I-88 as they have a patrol trooper assigned to that patrol zone most of the time. D16 rarely patrols their stretch of I-90, at least from what I hear.

Not exactly, 355 is entirely on south including the portion north of 88 to Army Trail. But essentially yes.

Going back and forth from school for 2 years via 90/39/88 I can count on one hand how many times I've heard outside units doing any kind of details on the tollway, mostly out on the west end of 88. Don't think I've ever heard a 16 unit on 90. Obvious exceptions would be serious incidents where they send the kitchen sink, like the hostage situation on the Edens a while back where 15 was working with District Chicago. 2 can sometimes end up on 355 as well because they like to sit on 355 between Lake and Army Trail so if they clock someone going south they'll end up on the tollway.

Those Districts patrol "non-tollway" portions of the highways you mention. I 88 is not a tollway the entire time. District 2 patrols I 290 as it merges from I 355. You might hear traffic stops if the violator goes beyond the "border", but that's not their patrol assignment. Their is a small portion of I 355 that is no longer part of the tollway, but is still considered I 355 and that's where District 2 patrols.

Zone 1 is I 88, Zone 2 is I 294 south of mile marker 32 or so, Zone 3 is on I 294 north of that, Zone 4 is I 90, Zone 5 is I 355.

Not sure about any other ISP district other then 1, 16, 17. I dont monitor the districts dispatched by Chicago often because of the amount of missed transmission on other channels.

I do know that the district 1 trooper on patrol 1 (dont quote me on the number) focuses heavily on the D15 part of I-88 and the Whiteside Co Patrol coveres the non D15 part of the tollway (Lee/Whiteside Co line and West). It is rare to hear a D15 Trooper actually get a call past M-11 (DeKalb) usally D1 handles the ISPERN calls for the D1 part of the tollways.

That is the main place I hear D2 patrol the most.

If you go to the mileposts section, you'll see what is considered "tollway" and I suspect District 15's jurisdiction. Mile marker 50 is the last I see on I 88. I find this very helpful when listening to them if I'm not familiar with the highway.

Recently Districts have been detailing some of their troopers to other districts for traffic missions. I recently heard a District 15 trooper on D5-A working I 80 making plenty of stops.

Does anyone have the RID file or know where I can find it for the SDS100? Or would it be better to start from scratch?

I just saw this today. My RID file is over 3100 entries as of this morning, many districts affiliate with the DuPage site which expands my horizons quite a bit. It was posted that RID's are going to be allowed to be entered in the database section soon, but not sure when? If their was a way to upload my Sentinel file to the Wiki, I'd be updating more frequently. Typing out 3100+ entries doesn't sound like fun.

It might benefit you to create your own list..have a pen and paper and patience.

I decided to put all dispatch UIDs in there to test out the UID feature on the SDS100. Im seriously considering expanding to all unit IDs from just dispatch centers, DeKalb PD, NIUDPS, Lee Co SO. I got 809 UIDs programmed in there.
