Why is it always over NOVA? I think the planes are based at JYO or one of the other northern Virginia airports, which makes me believe it's training evolutions rather than an actual op, but then again maybe there a a bunch of criminals in that area.

Guys

I have info that freq 241.0 is no longer a nationwide US Army allocation but is special use. So might be seen in conjunction with Raven Rock, Mt Weather, Pentagon, etc.

Would be interesting to see what u guys up in Penn, Virginia and West Virginia get on this freq.

BTW: is Pentagon helipad been heard lately. If I remember correctly they had a couple of discrete VHFfreqs they used--but haven't seen any posts on them recently

They're based at HEF. It's definitely not training. I've heard the surveillance comms. It only takes one criminal. An aircraft is necessary for persistent surveillance, especially with the traffic around here. It's easy to lose a target on the road. Hell, I've heard them lose a target even with the plane. I'm a PI and have first hand experience following people around here.

mdmonitor, let me know what you want me to listen in on I will give it a shot. I'm not a big mil listener but I'll help out if I can.

Mark,

If you are anywhere near Raven Rock freqs to listen for might be 241.0 292.2 and 141.7 (AM). These are all used by the 1st Helo Sqdn at Andrews. Their job is to ferry high-level VIPS around the DC area usding their UH-1 Hueys painted in olive drab with white tops.

They usually use the callsign Musel ##

Another freq might be 273.95 used by the VIP aircraft (helos & V-22 Ospreys) of HMX-1 out of the Marine Base at Quantico VA. They also do alot of VIP flights in the DC area.

Air Force loses $115 million gunship to a 'sideslip'

"How can you destroy a $115 million airplane without crashing it?

Fly it upside down.

That's exactly what happened to one of the Air Force's newest gunships, the AC-130J Ghostrider, this year, according to a report from Air Force Materiel Command released this month."

Interesting Acft

Guys,

Posted yesterday on another list---was wondering if u guys in WVA/PA have any ideas?

A very interesting aircraft, "IFR200" has been circling between Martinsburg, WV & Chambersburg, PA for hours. Due to its unique identifier, I couldn't find it by searching, and it's not on FlightAware at all. "IFR200" on flightradar24.com.
