To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

RE: G5 no audio on scanned TG's

Ok thanks, I don't have any previous versions of firmware to revert back to, does this mean I'm out of luck for the time being?

I might be wrong but I believe that was heavily discussed a few days ago in this thread

You can download the MPSCS firmware that David linked to in his firmware update email. R11P. :) That's assuming that you really do want to go back to the previous firmware.

It's a settings issue, not firmware version.

Go to D5 in PPS. Check each knob position "knob - function setting", down to "alert mode" and make sure it's set to "tone" rather than "silent".

It is an issue with the new firmware that you have to play with the settings on order for your unit to work properly.

To anyone that is just reading this and doesn't want to read the thread for whatever reason... This is simple, keep your device the way it is. DON'T UPDATE the firmware unless you want to spend time tweaking things in order for then to work again.

In my opinion, it's not worth the tweaking and the time involved, just to get a tad bit faster menu response.

There are several other fixes and improvements beyond faster menu response. It's not unusual to require a setting to be changed in order to be compatible with a new release. I've experienced that issue with many software products, including IBM, Oracle, Apple, MS, and Adobe. None are immune to an oversight or omission.

That said, it would have been helpful if Unication had included this settings correction in the release notes and avoided the resulting annoyance to users.

I am almost in total agreement with this. I don't even see a faster menu response since it still gets interrupted by a transmission. Sure would be nice if they'd get rid of that. I do love this little radio. All I need is TG hold and programmable delay.

WOW, all the madness,, all I did a few days ago was do the firmware update (5 min max). everything worked fine and was noticeably faster. then the next day updated my software. added some FFFFs, pager went silent, went back and set everything for tone, boom back up! (15 min max) Im sure all the complaining will make them think twice when they do have a significant update. then people will be complaining when they have to take it to their dealer to do it ! this is a pager that so happens to work GREAT doing something it wasn't designed for, I hate even touching my BCD436HP , since I got my Unication it sits unused

People are posting legitimate 'bugs' with the new software. One poster even posting (and sending to Unication) his profile because after following directions and videos, cannot get QC-II to decode (which is pretty much the bulk of their updated firmware release).

It took me a lot more than 15 minutes to go through 28 systems, 33 zones and 675 talk groups and counting to get the audio to pass. A 'complainer' as you're saying is the one who found and posted the fix, not Unication.

I have posted the better responsiveness to knob changes. I have also posted that I'm getting audio from talk groups NOT assigned to knob positions passing through. This didn't happen before the firmware update. This is a 'bug' that needs to be addressed. Same goes for the display of P25T vs the subscriber ID. I personally did extensive testing on both Motorola and Harris systems, checked to make sure it wasen't related to SmartX, etc and posted up the issue in hopes of a future fix.

People like you, are the one's that companies should be drooling for to be a beta tester. People like you, are the one's that are truly dedicated to this hobby, perhaps even the profession of radio communications. Sounds like your commitment is on point. I thank you for your expertise and knowledge.

Keep up the good work Sir!

I'm a pretty serious radio hobbiest please don't confuse me for a ham cause i'm not, not against ham just not me.

I provide a number of feeds through rr/broadcastify and have used a number of scanners and two way radios. Lastportable scanner i bought the 436 and not half the radio the 396 was. I bought my g-5 in mid and knew there where limitations to what it would do, but it blast everthing i'd used out of the water and was even using special antenna on my 436.

Yeah alot of money got mine from scannermaster and do alot of business with them, for my feeds over the years not at once i have purchased 7 of the 996xt's, 396, 436, 2 of the 536, and number of odds /ends. I also got my G-5 as well.

I called both scannermaster and Rays for the firmware also watched the videos that David put up on you tube.

I down loaded new pps and did the firmware, even backup what was in my radio via another computer. All was fine everything worked as it did in fact started scanning right away.

Later that evening I added the P-25 paging just as he showed and reading the help things that come up and works great, not with an fd andylonger but like listen when the medic and fd rolls from my area.

I changed it from silent to tone and the audio is still not coming through.

Go to D4 and make sure that each Talk Group alert tone is set to NONE. I had to change over 400 TG's from Default Tone to NONE.

I had about 2300 of them between the G4 and G5 configurations. Here's my suggestion.

If anyone else is facing changing hundreds of talkgroups in PPS, D4, you might find this suggestion helpful. Instead of mousing around with the software's flakey drop down box, use your keyboard. Go to the top row and select the Alert Mode or Alert Tone cell, then press "n" to select "none", then press Page Down on your keyboard, press, "n", repeat, until you get to the bottom. When you get to the bottom move up a row or go back to row tow, and repeat. It's a lot quicker than the mouse.

Go to D4 and make sure that each Talk Group alert tone is set to NONE. I had to change over 400 TG's from Default Tone to NONE.

I don't recall anyone mentioning that there's now a 32 zone limit in PPS. That is disappointing to me, and I hope just a bug, and not a new limitation. Unication David, can you let us know if that's a bug or a new limit?

FYI, I have a few knob positions that don't have any assignment throughout so that may contribute to it if true. And if true that makes for a while new thought on my continued programming....please advise David. Have to know whether to split up my files geographically.

I have 40+ in mine, but those snuck through during the import from the older version. The "new" button is disabled in the newest PPS, once 32 zones is reached.
