To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I had audio volume issues since the new firmware. Seems I have to jack it up to 75-85 to hear everything. Then of course, the loudest talkgroup blasts in. I used to hear it fine on 60-70. Recently though, I've rebooted it by pressing the 2 buttons on the side and the top button on the channel selector all at the same time. Resets all. It seems to have helped. I still use it mostly in the amp/charger though. Yes, bluetooth sound is much better now, no tunnel sound or blurred transmissions over bt.

Any idea when a new update will be out? I've not tried the last one and it sounds like it was the smart way to go. Really like to be able to turn monitor on and off for the system I monitor. Also can anybody tell me once a new update is out can I just do that one or will I need to do the one that is out now and then do the next one? Thanks

I suspect no one has this answer - and if they are smart, Unication won't say until it is ready.

I'm 99.9% sure that each firmware release stands independent and on it's own.

Another strange error with newest FW. At least I have not seen this one. 'Charging error #10, battery over temp' I just replaced my battery, so it's not worn out. The battery was warm. I reverted back to R11N2 and have had no more problem. My list of problems with new FW:
1. Charging error # 10
2. Audio gone, have to set to tone alert
3. Monitor Mode missing from radio menu
4. Delay re-acquiring the CC after VC shuts down (random as long as 2-3 seconds)

My fear is if these problems are not corrected and we get a PII update, they will all come back.

Anybody had an issue monitoring a system, then switching to another and it doesnt lock onto CC of the new one?
Work in a city i monitory, driving home i switch to another and it never locks on. Power off, wait a few seconds it then works. I was able to reproduce this 3 days in a row after i did the update.

Until the Phase 2 update is issued (haha) I will not upgrade the firmware in mine, unless some really useful other features show up. Very glad I didn't pull the trigger on it when the update first came out.

Yep, I reverted back. Besides the QC-II paging feature on trunked talkgroups (which I don’t use since the system I monitor is Phase II) and a more responsive knob selector, everything else is not worth it.

That's a great idea. Only problem is you have to pay $150 for the update. What if you don't like all the problems that come with it? Will they give us our money back?

Doubt it... unless PII doesn’t work, which is what the money is for independently from bugs in other functions etc... For now, no issues on either G4 and G5 I own with the latest firmware. Perhaps luck.

I'll put up with some BS here and there with my G5, if thats what it takes for me to be able to receive Phase2.

What it takes to receive Phase 2 is $150 and a wait that never ends. The rest is irrelevant.

I've been hearing (one-sided) conversations on talkgroups that I didn't expect for some time now (dispatcher talking to units on an EMS talkgroup coming through on a Fire response talkgroup).

Today, I was finally able to confirm (using Pro96Com) that this is being caused by patches on the system...

It isn't obvious why (only) the dispatch side of these conversations are being patched from time to time -- I guess I have to chalk it up to operator (dispatcher) error.

Also - I've recently determined that even if the QC paging over P25 I hear on my local use of my state system worked, it wouldn't matter much. The patch of paging seems to always come across a neighboring (still within the county) site but not the site closest to me. I can only assume this is because there are no users routinely affiliated with that talkgroup on my local site.

Now that I've had the opportunity to play with both firmware versions, here are my thoughts:

The only benefit I saw from the newer firmware was the faster processing of knob position changes.

The bugs which caused me to switch back:

-Talkgroups NOT assigned to knob positions passing audio.

-Loss of subscriber ID display to P25T during transmissions.

-PPS limiting the amount of zones to 32 (big issue for me).

-Increased instances of garbled audio. I actually switched firmwares back and forth in these locations and confirmed it due to the firmware. My APX also was used as a 'control' to make sure it wasen't system based.

Thanks for mentioning the increased instances of garbled audio. I too noticed this. I have 2 G4 units and testing against my APX and KNG2 i found similar issues. I then put 1 G4 back to R11P and the audio cleared up. Going to test some more but i wanted to let David know they might want to look into what they changed from 11P to 17 and see why some of us are noticing a higher instance of garbled audio.
To be clear its not an encrypted talk group, and i am actually about 2 miles away line of site from the tower, full signal on both units.
I also saw 2 instances where the G4 with 17 also lost CC signal after a conversation ended. The unit with 11P did not do this.
The unit with 17 also seems to stop following conversation about half second faster then the 11P unit. So when a unit de-keys the system hang time is present before it drops out. The new firmware seems to revert back to main screen (what the channel displays when there is no traffic) a half second quicker.

How exactly did you guys revert back? I loaded firmware R11P and installed the PPS for it no problems. Now when I read my UHF G5 it shows it as a VHF G4 and will not accept UHF freqs etc. Am I missing something?

That might be something to reach out to UnicationDavid about.

I have gone back and forth a few times and never had any issues. I am sticking with R11N2 as I had some audio issues with R11P. I would make sure you are looking at the correct profile(if you have more than one) and be sure to load the FW before the PPS. Then be sure you match the correct FW and PPS.

Figured I would repost here so that every has a better chance of seeing it.

Just so everyone knows we have a version of Phase II in Closed Beta with a few select system admins now and everything is looking good we just have to add in a few of the features that we support on Phase 1 and we should be good to release at some point in the near future.
