To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Well after hammering through 33 zones of my imported profile and changing the audio to tone it's now passing the audio.

From looking at the software, it looks like you could leave Tab 5 "Zone & Channel Setting" Audio to Silent and just go to Tab 4 "Group ID Setting" and change Alert Mode to "None" since that will default the talkgroup to silent. I'll be testing that later.

For those with multiple Group IDs (I have 675 in mine), this seems like a faster way rather than clicking through each knob position.

I don't think that worked when I tried it. I ended up setting group ID alert mode to NONE, and knob/function alert mode setting to TONE before it would unmute without pushing the side button. Now its back to working like it did on r11.

occasional "P25T" display instead of the subscriber ID.

same here

I saw that on the previous firmware on occasion also ... still seeing with the new firmware as well. I believe this is poor reception based on what I was seeing last night.

As far as the crashing I was seeing yesterday and then switching laptops and starting over - that seems to have corrected the crashing issues. Later, when I'm interested in creating pain for myself, I may go back to the other laptop and see if I can recreate the crashing.

In the mean time, I watched David's YouTube video on setting up Quick Call -- believe I followed all of the steps as we went along... but it seems maybe not. I just saw the first alert and the paging talkgroup was active with a voice call -- not really what I was expecting. Guess I need to back up and try again. I'm hoping I'm just confused over that "alternatives" setting.

David - I'm still not getting alerting to work here... Initially, the G4 acted as if it is in typical monitor talkgroup mode. Now, it doesn't seem to do anything (the only change I made was check/uncheck "Alternatives").

It could be any number of things including (I suspect) that the type of two-tone alerting being done over at P25 talkgroup in my case doesn't qualify/isn't supported....

Note: the two-tone alerting is done over a VHF frequency which I believe is patched onto a P25 talkgroup. Two-tone alerting on the VHF frequency does work on newer Uniden scanners but of course, they don't do alerting on the P25 talkgroups - just the conventional frequency.

Perhaps this "patch" onto a P25 talkgroup method is not supported. Is that the case?

I guess my question is - how do we know what is and is not supported?

it has been tested on a patched TG

Watch the video I explain it in detail how to set it up. Alternatives is an AND/OR statement. If it is disabled the unit requires a 2 tone pair AND voice traffic to unmute. If Enabled it with unmute on a 2 tone pair OR voice traffic thereby giving you the ability to setup "selective call" or "Monitor" depending on the Alternative settings.

I watched the video (and learned ALOT - including there's lots of places you can go wrong)... I made my changes to configuration along the way while going through the video (pausing the video while making edits to the config).

However, that doesn't explain why it isn't working....

Hopefully my dealer will respond to my email about getting the updated firmware. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Tone before each transmission - I went to each knob and changed from Silent to Tone but now how do I turn off the tone before each transmission?

Any suggestions - Thanks!

Thank you ResQguy! I had most of the Talk Groups set to Default. Setting them to none got rid of the tones.

For others that may have this issue just go to D4 - Group List and look at the Alert Tones to make sure they are all set to None.

Channel knob selections ALOT more response. Good job there Unication. Also noticed a little lock appear on the display during encrypted communications. Don't know if that was there before...but since garbled comms (during poor coverage for example) sound the same as ENC comms, I can now tell the difference between the two (need an ENC silence or low beep function in there so I don't get blasted by ENC comms by the way). Still getting P25T instead of the subscriber ID on transmissions, usually when I have multiple talkgroups assigned to a knob position and it starts getting busy...almost as if it can't keep up. This is where I think a talkgroup delay feature would be helpful. And even if the other party to the conversation keys up quick before the talkgroup display screen drops to the main screen, it won't display the other ID.

I have noticed on my G4 that every now and then it takes 2-3 seconds to re-acquire the CC after a transmission ends. I don't recall ever seeing this before.
