ok, in the RR database, there are like a gazillion talkgroups in the NJSP trunked system. can anybody help break it down into a much smaller list? i'm in union county and mainly interested in troop B and/or troop C dispatch and patrol stuff for the TPK and GSP.

should i be looking at the talkgroups that are described as "1-COMM, 2-COMM..."? are they the most commonly used channels? this is part of my 'disaster channel list' so i want to hear what's happening out on the roads, not only with traffic and accidents, but anything that might be important.

if anybody in my area has a small list similar to what i'm looking for, i'd appreciate if you could jot it down for me.

thanks for any help.

p.s. - this should be the mother-of-all scanner lists for my area when i'm done. i plan on making it available in an arc250 file for anyone that wants it.

Look at the talkgroups that have towns listed by them example...

  • 36528 8eb C3-02 TRP HQ 2-COMM TROOP HQ (Div. HQ, Princeton)
36560 8ed C3-03 SOUTH 3-COMM DISPATCH (Div. HQ, Red Lion)
36592 8ef C3-04 WEST 4-COMM DISPATCH (Div. HQ, Hamilton, Allenwood)
36624 8f1 C3-05 EAST 5-COMM DISPATCH (Div. HQ, Bordentown, Kingwood)

I pulled this from troop C. Troop B should have similar talkgroups too. I used to live in Union Twp. and now in Monmouth County. I mostly monitor these talkgroups.

All of those talkgroups are great for everyday comms but I usually leave them out of my scanlists because they are nearly constant communication.

Here are some of the talkgroups that are usually good for listening:

NJ Task Force 1:
58256 e39 USAR CMD Command
58288 e3b USAR RESCUE 1 Rescue 1
58320 e3d USAR RESCUE 2 Rescue 2
58352 e3f USAR TECH SRCH Technical Search
58384 e41 USAR K9 SRCH K-9 Search
58416 e43 USAR MEDICAL Medical
58448 e45 USAR TECH INFO Technical Info
58480 e47 USAR LOGISTICS Logistics

Aviation/Med-evac
26800 68b B5-06 S STAR JEMSTAR AEROMEDICAL Southstar Helicopter
26832 68d B5-07 N STAR JEMSTAR AEROMEDICAL Northstar Helicopter
26864 68f B5-08 AIR AIR/AVIATION

Fire Coordinaters:
58576 e4d STATEFIRE COORD NJ STATE FIRE COORD – STATEWIDE
58608 e4f STATEFIRE OPS NJ STATS FIRE COORD - OPS

I believe all of those talkgroups are simulcasted across all 3 systems.

Here's the link for the best and most comprehensive and up to date information you will find for the State Police:

http://nosoup4u.net:8080/scanner/NJSP.pdf

All of the information you are looking for is right there on the first two pages of the file. For Troops A,B, & C the 2,3,4, & 5 Comm Talk Groups are for the units that patrol the local areas and roadways. Troop D & E are for the Turnpike & Parkway patrols, as indicated in the file. Also program the Ops, Car To Car Talk groups.

BTW, check this file periodically, as the author updates it whenever he gets new information.
