The 96 won't follow an LTR system... the 92 was the best for mapping an LTR, the 97 isn't bad either.... and the Unidens make easy work of them as well.... I haven't tried the new GRE scanners on LTR yet but they should be at least as easy as the 97...

Question...I noticed that there is a dec number in front of the ambulance listing under the J-Town LTR. Is that something that can be tracked with the 96? I have never messed with anytype of LTR system and wasn't sure

Doug

You can listen, if it's slow, and the last time I checked it was not to busy, so you'll hear traffic, but also every other user, plus the LTR pulses. It gets annoying.

You'll need a Uniden, a Pro-97 or the newer versions or the new GRE 500.
I'd look for a new or used Pro-97 as that will track and also cover Mil-Air of which there is some in Louisville.

Well the ambulance service is calling base Control, so it appears to be Rural-Metro.
I also checked 170.750 in Louisville today, nothing heard, but it is a federal holiday.
I did receive a lot of paging interference. And I heard two solid carriers, but I think they are birdies in the scanner.

That's what i first thought when I heard the 170 Freq, but they have always used the lower VHF ones. I'll have to look back, back one of those I think was used during Thunder also.

I think they are getting ready to deploy again, saw some down at FT Knox buying the new Army Camo.

One of the channels I heard mention of security.....the other was something to do with the flight line. The unit that came home today was from Bardstown.

I occasionally sit in the area with the scanner just to hear what I can hear and happened to scan lower channels than normal and there they were....lol...

Didn't get to listen while on post...not very professional listening to a scanner doing what I was doing...

I would like to take listen at the airport, but every time I down in the area, there doesn't seem to be any good places to monitor. Plus I'm usually passing through. But I'm thinking one of the hotel parking lots might work without raising anybody's suspicion.

Actually a good place to go is to the cell phone waiting lot. If you come into the airport you will see a sign that says cellphone waiting lot and credit card overflow(or something like that). I sat there for about 45 minutes to an hour with my scanner listening. It is nothing for people to sit over there for an hour or 2 waiting for family to come in.

This is the lot where you can wait without paying to park or leaving your car by the curb.

Cool thanks, I know when the car hit the guard building a few months ago, they were using portable radios to communicate, so I'm sure they are in regular use for ANG.

Yesterday I was on the way there for a welcome home celebration and they were beefing up security a little more and was more talkative. I have heard them once or twice today but been listening to Jefferson County Fire mutual aid more in the last hour or so. The Louisville Metro Trench Rescue unit went to Lanesville Indiana for a trench rescue about 1-2 hours ago. Nothing on SAFE-T but a little on 154.295 pl 151.4

Doug you have identified the "new" KyYNG/KYEM system, or part of it.... apparently there has been a serious upgrade involving 50 Armories around the Commonwealth to bring that system up to a new operational deadline of 01 Jan 2008.... This includes the addition of multi-casting equipment; digital/encryption operations standards for a number of portable and mobile radios and some new repeaters in the system as well.... The old system used three freqs, two of them a repeated pair and all three available as simplex freqs.... I am going to assume, based upon what Doug has identified and what was monitored during Derby 2007 that we have at least four of the new freqs (138.425/140.790/139.21500/148.75000) including the KYNG/KYEM Command Post.....

I finally did something right....LOL...After almost a year the scanner paid off.....

I will keep listening...I did hear something that appeared to be scrambled in that area yesterday but wasn't sure if it was that or sometype of interference.

I am working on reallocating channels on the scanner to better listen to new stuff....

(Side note): still can't hear squat on Fort Knox....LOL...

That's not the only thing you have done right.... what it really means is that you don't have to think any more you just do it by insticnt.... now the fun begins! Don't know why you can't at least pick up the sounds.... do you have the extended freqs activated in WIN 96....
good work on snagging the new freqs....

Knox has made some changes, I was down on Dixie by Neil Huffman, and could barely receive the system, as I headed south it was hit and miss. even well into Bullitt County. And the locations in Indiana where i could hear it good, nothing... But you should be able to hear over it over in J town.
Did you check the database for updated Control Channels, if you can hear them, then do a search in 380-399 and you should hear voice traffic. The list of voice channels is incomplete also. You just need a PSR-500 or BCD396 scanner.

Actually, I'd put J-Town as iffy too--or, more properly, the vast majority of traffic on the Ft. Knox system seems to be encrypted. (FWIW, I live very close to the west side of J-Town and do have a PSR-500. You can pick up the control channel fairly well here--there's just not a heck of a lot of traffic "in the clear", or the voice channels themselves may be just weak enough to not be able to decode well even with an optimal ground-plane setup. Maybe if I had a yagi cut for the system... :D)

I would also think Okolona et al would be able to pick it up well--goodness knows they can hear the artillery range well enough! :D

I don't think that much is encrypted... It's just hard to hear, and hard to receive, and itsounds not to good at a distance. Remember I'm receiving it out at about 45-50 miles. But I've really only heard 2-3 encrypted talkgroups. I hear stockade traffic in the clear. At least that's what I think it is, they call for prisoner so and so. But I still do not have a positive id.

How does it track with all three CC in places either as separate systems or or multi-track or whatever GRE calls it.

Doug

Just monitored what sounded a lot like Motorola iDen (scroll down some, look for it on the left) on 170.75000.... this was in the vicinity of New Circle and Russell Cave Pike in Lexington at 0915 (25 Jan)... haven't been by the airport to see if Con Air is on the ground.... but it came in 5X5..... except I couldn't understand what was being said (obviously)!
