Let's see what kind of relationship they build with the reputable vendors and what prices they charge.

If they don't sell them at a discounted price at the reputable vendors and it's a website deal only at the retail price then that's a horse of a different color..

That'll be a quick awakening for them.

I stuck to my guns and said until I see that press release and that official letter from Whistler that they were going out of business that there was always a chance.

Now we wait and see.

Time will tell. No amount of hand-wringing, teeth gnashing, or burning of incense will tell anyone anything about the future of this company. I understand the need of some to be able to post "I told ya so!" to validate their feelz.

Give it time.

If you don't like the pricing, don't buy the product. Seems pretty simple, I know.

Let's all hope there is more to this development than the recent hysteria, demands for product, and silly optimism over the "return" of Radio Shack.

Edit: Another thought, since it says nothing other than the IP was purchased, one might want to hold off on demanding support/repair. The release says nothing about that.

Update to my post:
i have not received a reply back, so i am not holding hope they will fire the firmware update servers.
if so, then the radios they have on there are useless as the old ones they sold.
no updates, then i will sticks with using my 1040 and updating it via the ez scan with the copy from 1040 settings.

I had sent them a message on Monday as well and have received no response either.

Do you still have the Serial Number saved? They will have no idea what belongs to anybody and should require prove it belongs to them.
We still have to wait and see if they offer Repairs, how their Warranties are done, and any Service as they have nothing listed at this time.

Maybe this has been covered in the past, don't know.
Sent this note to Whistler on their new customer comment page.
Hoping this might be a possibility if for some reason there are no definite plans for the update system.

There have been many additions and changes to the FCC frequency database recently.
It appears that the Whistler company has been offline for awhile.
The Whistler update page has also been down, leaving everyone with
no way to update their scanners.
If there is doubt on the future of updating the Whistler TRX1 and TRX2 software,
is there a possibility that the code could be shared with a 3rd party software developer?
At minimum, to allow the necessary updates to be made to just the frequency database
when there are issues with the Whistler sponsored page.?

Thanks
John

I'm still curious as to what kind of relationship or arrangements they're going to make with reputable scanner vendors and what competitive prices they will have, they can't sell these old radios at top retail list price they have on their site.

Their business filing from the Ohio Secretary of State:

The representative who signed the filing, presumably the owner, is Ben Krieger. By connecting a few dots, it's the same Ben Krieger that owns Cincinnati-based BestNest.com and they've been around for a long time. FWIW I've made a couple of purchases from that site over the years and I even sought help from its customer service once. My experiences with were all positive, so hopefully that bodes well for Whistler.

That will tell us a lot about whether they are serious on selling products or simply want to continue riding the old GRE horse, like Whistler did, until the legs fall off.

Ideally, they’d look for available intellectual talent to either work on developing a new product, or at least fully support the current product line with whatever firmware updates can be provided. And, so far, we don’t know whether they’ll be able to pick up the pieces for repairing existing models. Especially in regards to those units sent in before Whistler pulled the plug.

When I put it in perspective and think about it, I remember when Radio Shack went out of business and I was able to pick up four Pro 652's, The old Pro 197 Circa 2007 for $125 a piece. Those radios are now the ws1065, approximately 17 years old technology.

The pro 197/652 was a great radio in its day but I had no use for them but they were brand new in an unopened box, it didn't work on simulcast phase 1 in my area and had front end overload in the city but I was able to turn them around for a nice profit when the dust settled and all you could get was a ws1065 and I don't think they're $125 a piece now. I actually don't know what they cost as I'm not in the market.

People still buy them if it meets there particular needs, I remember back 16 to 17 years ago Pro 197's were the cats meow until simulcast and Phase 2 came around.

I am curious what their business model is going to be and I guess we'll find out soon enough.
