Nice sleuthing! I concur.

Likely Illinois DOC
- Illinois Department of Corrections (DOC) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference
- FCC Callsign WNAS633 Details - Logan
- FCC Callsign KNFQ649 Details - Logan
- FCC Callsign KNFQ654 Details - Moline

The first link lists 136.5 PL, but I imagine you heard IDOC - with bases in both Moline and Logan.

That's an interesting one - There isn't a single specific license in the US for 46.84. Dunno what part of the radio service that is. Is that a cordless phone input perhaps?

That's a typo - should have been 47.840.

I really believe that audio is saying "Helena". Listen again and tell me if you're hearing Helena after closer scrutiny.

If it's Helena, I'm aware of Helena MT and Helena AL - There's St. Helena CA (in Napa Co) and Saint Helena County, Louisiana as well.

Obviously that's a power company. You'd think that'd narrow it down, but most if not all licenses that exist for 47.84 are utility (water or electic).

I tried figuring it out with Moline (IL), Molena (GA), Molina (CO), and one or two other "Molina" or variants in other states.

Wonder if it's Saint Helena County, Louisiana since that's just a state away (don't know what the distance is from you).

Man, you get the low band dx I cannot get here in my West PA qth. Admittedly, I need to catch up on antenna maintenance. Cool wx conditions here, get some bending out of Butler County.

AOR 8000/D-130 Discone at 30 feet agl.

I'm likely not far away fromyou Ed - I'm over in Steubenville, OH area. I definitely haven't seen the kind of openings that kkn50 sees. But just about every day recently there has been a little bit of something. the problem is that it isn't reliable. It fades in and out real quick. I have only seen one decent opening recently where it lasted for hours. I don't have a great antenna setup either. I'm using a DPD OmniX up about 8 feet off my back deck (replaced the umbrella pole for my deck table with a piece of PVC and the OmniX).

I'm sure things would be better if I did what kkn50 did and use a simple dipole cut for 40mhz.
