Love the control your scanner from anywhere but I've been doing this for months now using team viewer and my iphone. Would have loved to see nex edge support since my county just switched to that, my city is going to p25 phase 2 , but before I buy a radio I will definitely see if they use encryption and what whistler has to offer. I wish a scanner would just come out with all the new formats.

Like the Manual for sure.. But wouldn't mind seeing it in book form

OK, Uniden's new scanner info website is not working again during a period of heavy use.

Come on Uniden, its 2013, the internet has been pretty mainstream for 20 years, and you're a big boy company. You produce a cordless phone every 3.2 seconds (seriously they do). You've got to get this website thing figured out, this is ridiculous. I mean, even for a week during these busy periods, host the new part of the website on a professional host like godaddy or something.

K.B. I got it to Go threw about an Hour ago and was able to save myself a copy of the Manual for future reference some interesting points in there.:) K-bear

What we need is a clear yes or no answer form someone who knows (Upman), weather or not these new ones can be firmware upgraded for NXDN and other formats that they currently do not have. All the back and forth yes and no stuff is not getting anywhere.

Maintenance contract for Florida's SLERS goes until 2021. So there goes that theory/guess.

While maintenance contracts are in place for many systems, including mine, the parts themselves are already being phased out of production. For example you likely will not be able to get a GETC after this year. Many considerations that go beyond the maintenance contract. Harris is also heavily courting all EDACS users for migration due to this including offering many incentives.

A New Suggestion - Sorry

To everyone at Uniden I would like to thank you for a job well done. I hope you really do read and discuss every posting here because I have a suggestion.

As much as I hated seeing multiple screen color options for the 396xt I have grown to like some of those options. And for good (functional) reason. Different natural and or manmade lighting situations can cause me to adjust the screen color for ease of visibility. ESPECIALLY at night. In very dark situations the RED color has the least glare to it. Why do the military, police and old photo developers use red lights? For that very reason. Less glare and I am sure for some prism color thing that I would not understand. I use red at night all the time because I have proven that any other color on the 396xt (even at the lowest setting) has a definite strong glare.

So I am asking ..... before the scanners come out in January could you please bring back the color option for the screen? Sorry if I am barking up the wrong tree but I have to ask. The worst you can say is no.

Thank you for your time.

Not true. What was said was that it can't be added to any of the older scanners (XT line, HP1, etc) because of hardware limitations. What that meant was that either the processor or the architecture of the radio was insufficient to decode those protocols.

Paul's statement early in the video where he says "We could have just slapped a bigger processor in the 396 and called it a day" leads one to believe that there is a bigger processor in the x36 line.

That would be a pleasant surprise, Jay.

Off in a far away place, far from u.......
TOTAL BS just like I had thought!

We do not need WIFI, a scanner to work with a phone or tablet, multiple colors or anything like that. WHAT we need are scanners able to have a real discriminator tap ,decode the CURRENT and FUTURE bands (MOTOTRBO, NXDN ) and actually have SERVICE updates regularly!

I am glad I did not buy into all the HYPE some of you have created...........COME on Whistler for some REAL SCANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Uniden for making a lot of us just throw money out the window with the HP-1. Maybe SOMEDAY you corporate people making all this money for crappy slow moving products will ACTUALLY listen to your consumers!

What "WE" are you talking about? You should state "you". Looks like a good evolutionary product.

Does anyone know, if the "remote head" that is used with my 996t, can be used with the BCD536HP?

I'd doubt it - it's a completely different scanner design inside, and doesn't appear to have the micro serial connector the 996 does.

Hopefully that WiFi dongle plugs into the rear of the scanner. With it mounted inside the dash of my vehicle I would never use it if I had to have it sticking out the front. The same applies for any GPS addons.
I would also like to see a rear image of the radio. Neither the manual nor any videos released yet show a rear shot.

I am not surprised that the DIN sleeve is not included. I don't think they have included those for along time. I know I had to get mine as an optional accessory for my BCT15x. Hopefully it is the same sleeve so I don't have to change that out as well.

Did it ever occur to you that there are reasons that Uniden can not release a scanner capable of decoding those modes? Im sure that if they could they would. And I guarantee the whistler brand will not do DMR or NXDN. your rant is YOUR opinion and is NOT a view of all of us.

Sure it's disappointing but I am sure there are valid reasons these scanners will not decode those modes.

Upman ,
I for one am excited about the new releases. I am really excited about the price. When watching the video of the release I was sure you where going to tell me an insane amount but, was pleasantly surprised. I wish you would give some insight as to the reason TRBO and NXDN could not be used. I get really tired of the speculators and would love to hear from Uniden as to why not. I would have liked to seen a discriminator tab as well for us REALLY big radio nerds.

Good day all
Dan

I think it is included with the 996XT.
