Didn't hear anyone mention how the new scanners will be different than the XT models as far as Unit Id's.

Can someone attach the manual here? Uniden site appears overloaded, unable to access.

Uniden should have included some form of SDR capability for future radio functionality upgrading. Yes, there is an extreme upgrade but it's not the same thing. What was stopping them from including support for tracking MPT-1327 systems apart from having limited deployment in North America ? It's open source.

I really do not think you are going to see anyone put much energy into EDACS or ProVoice considering that it is already a year beyond EOL and full manufacturer support for infrastructure parts is gone in less than five years. <snip>

Maintenance contract for Florida's SLERS goes until 2021. So there goes that theory/guess.

Pretty excited about this new model coming out and some of the new features. I'm really intrigued about this WiFi feature, may keep me from having to physically mount a scanner in my car now.

I think people are missing that while DMR is open, the trunking methods that utilize DMR are proprietary. This ship has not, necessarily, sailed. It was mentioned that there are more options that will be announced, prior to the units going on sale, adding DMR-based monitoring could be part of that.

Sadly, I am part of the simulcasting sufferers. I hope that has been addressed.

I like what I see on the 536, for the wifi possibilities. I like that I could leave this in my vehicle, and monitor and control it via an app.

I'm most interested in the Wifi and Phone/Tablet App. I regularly listen to music via Bluetooth through my car. I can't wait to try that out with the scanner. The wife is going to hate it! Mwahahah >: ^)

I'll likely get both. Already have a HomePatrol that I love and a BCD396XT. The 396 isn't very easy for me to program so I welcome the RadioReference.com database support like the HomePatrol.

Thanks Uniden and UpMan for listening to us.

Thanks Marshall for the manual link. I wish Uniden would get turned on to Incapsula or Cloudflare for days like these.

Well it is my understanding that a technology type of patent is indefinite in duration !!!

WRONG! Trademarks may be indefinite but patents always expire. Currently it's 20 years. (An additional 5 years can be tacked on in some circumstances.) After a patent expires then the patent is public property for anyone to use. Until then, it is considered personal property and the owner (not inventor) has total rights. The government gives the patent holder monopoly powers for a period of time in order to foster inventions that are of benefit to society.

This new setup is looking great, especially the WiFi and phone/tablet app features.

Does anyone know if the dimensions of the 536HP are the same as the 996xt? It'd be great to be able to just swap out radios in my car with the custom mount I have currently.

So I'm still not clear -- will this system be compatible with the new Harris system? When I first saw the announcement, I thought it was great news until reading this thread and some references to Harris patents.

Our county (Genesee, WNY) switches to Harris on Feb. 1.

Also, am I to understand the app is droid only? That makes it vaporware as far as I'm concerned.

TRBO is Motorola's variant of DMR which is an open standard. There are several vendors of DMR compatible equipment besides Motorola.

Yes and no.

Conventional MotoTRBO uses the DMR standard.

Connect Plus and Capacity Plus systems do not use the DMR standard, and are proprietary to Motorola.
