Well I take it back, I hope they get this radio mess sorted out before someone gets hurt.
Been some strange coms...like, "they can hear you but you cant talk to them".

Now its all quiet on the old channels, again. Went dead over the weekend, first Redmond PD then DCSO and Bend PD.
I guess Sunriver got in on the system too, definitely need to encode that "lost children" and "house check #whatever".

House seems so quiet with out the endless noise of the local LEO.

Is the OSRP all encrypted?
I am not hearing anything on the new Radio Project system.

Nice work tracking the new system guys.

No, I live in Portland and regularly travel I5. The Newberg and Portland towers are very active with traffic from Yamhill and Columbia county and OSP.

No most of it isn't encrypted in fact. If you listen to the Powell Butte site, you'll hear Yamhill County SO and McMinnville PD for some odd reason. Deschutes fire districts will be on the new system, unencrypted.

And as a side note, in the tri-county area of central Oregon, Warm Springs PD is full time VHF P25. Jefferson County SO is usually VHF analog, but do have units in P25 mode. Prineville PD has acquired a new license for 800mhz P25. NONE of these other agencies are utilizing or have any plans to encrypt.

My understanding is that OSP and ODOT will not encrypt dispatch because they are linking dispatch TGs back to their VHF repeaters full time for interop so agencies with VHF can still communicate.

That is correct, OSP and ODOT won't be encrypting any dispatch channels. OSP will of course have encryption on special channels.

Deschutes fire districts will be moving to 700 mhz system? i thought they were going to have 4 channel VHF simulcast system built for them??

Hope it works out for the Fire departments. Hopefully they will do a lot testing, before they make the move. Sounds like law didn't work bugs out before the move.

Originally, but now they're going to the 700/800 system.

Which is a surprising choice, considering the number of other nearby fire and land management agencies that are still on VHF. And even more so when you think about how much of the area sits in the wildland-urban interface. That's a lot of automatic aid, mutual aid, and interop. on a pretty routine basis.

It's what happens when decisions are made internally in isolation instead of considering all partner agencies and interoperability. Interop should be a priority in these discussions.

Most fire radios will be VHF & 700/800 capable dual band radios.

Good point on the multi-band radios -- the downside is that can be quite a chunk of change for smaller, mostly-volunteer departments in the surrounding areas. Plus, you have the additional subscriber fees paid to dispatch for accessing/using the new system.

My guesstimate is that fire will try out the trunked system for a while, and after trouble with dead spots, waiting to PTT, interop., and comms. on the fireground... they will just relegate it for admin duties / planned events, switching back over to their existing analog VHF system.

Don't know if this play by play is getting tiresome for you guys...Bend PD and DCSO are back on the "old" channels...again. Sometime around 3pm for Bend then DCSO a little later.

A question about the OSRP... where, how and 'do' you add the WACN and ID# numbers?
I am feeling a bit dense in the grey matter.
Or point me to some info about it?...reading for 2 days has not helped any.

Using Freescan, in the 'system' page, "P25 NAC Search (Hex or SRCH)" " Number Tag".
Tried to add what I was thinking is the number 9254A 00A, no joy. That even the correct number?
Also what type of system is the OSRP? Mot Type II/P25, P25 Standard , P25 One Freq Trunk?

If that's getting too far off topic I can start a 'help me' thread, if I have to.

Thanks guys

They're still on the new system. There's a patch through one of the consoles to the analog system.

What scanner do you have? No need for NAC code or anything else. Just the site frequencies. Awbrey 857.9375 is current control. You can also use Powell Butte and I believe Sugar Pine was active.

Silence again

After a week or better of hearing dispatch on the old analog system, it is once again radio silence. I guess it is time to write those letters. ;-)

The DB used to show 9024 as DCSO SAR 1 but now it says DCSO Car-2-Car and its marked "E" for encrypted. Also 38152 OSP La Pine is also marked "E" for encrypted. Is this correct?
