still not satisfied with the audio quality lot of distorted broken just noises so loud you can not copy a single word ect.
i have reduced the gain down to almost off with a small vertical outside for a tower just down the road 5 miles
and changed back to c4fm setting on modulation helped greatly in my opinion

Just FYI -- If you were only copying the control channel, and it wasn't a simulcast (or it was a simulcast but you were only copying one site of the simulcast), then C4FM is fine. But that's a PHase II P25 system. You do not want to use C4FM on that, despite the fact that you may believe audio is better. You need to use LSM/CQPSK decoder for that system since it's Phase II.

I agree the gain doesn't have to be very high if the tower is close, and that any time you have more gain that necessary it often hurts more than helps.

I really suggest switching back to the LSM / CQPSK decoder. And then if you are having issues, you should post in the SDRTRunk Google Group ( sdrtrunk - Google Groups )

the beginning of tg 25680 it must be a tweaking process of the audio by the techs before they get it right ?

The second batch certainly does sound magnitudes better. I'm sure they could be fine tuning the system in general. But also, that kind of "great one minute, lousy the next" performance is something that pretty indicative of monitoring a simulcast system (and experiencing the distortion from time to time) with a C4FM decoder. Are you still running C4FM? If so, and if you really believe C4FM is doing a better job, you should post on the SDRTRunk Google Group about it. Could be something amiss with the decoders. Denny has made lots of changes to lots of things over the past six months. And what may have been perfect decode on one version could end up being lousy decode on another. I remember that this type of thing would happen between Unitrunker development versions too.

well after running only 5 alpha 2 from the start and not get any recordings i recently switched to the most recent ver 5 alpha 6
then went one step further by putting ver 5 alpha 6 on another machine with only the huron co system on it
i follow both forums and have posted numerous times
that was the c4fm setting i switched it to lsm does not seem to be any difference
lsm testing of 25632 sheriff tg just now

I'm hearing the new system loud and clear up here in Vermilion Twp. I've only heard Huron County SO so far. Cannot wait until Erie County decided to go with a trunked system, or at least digital.
