Is Whistler Still in the Scanner Business ?

Good observation... The Whistler site was never a great place for any kind of discount on their products--even on the scratch and sniff stuff.

On the other hand, prices are dropping nicely for private sales of some models: just bought a WS1095 and a WS1098 combo for $150! They just needed the firmware and CPU updates, which @tvengr so graciously assisted with. Still very good scanners--especially for the price point--and not half bad on simulcast, unlike the TRX-series.

Searched whistler model numbers, whistler police scanner, etc. on Amazon and I get back listings for unidens. Usually only one picture of a whistler with no option to buy.

I would not send it to them until I knew more about their lack of communication.

I have a good project for someone, find a TV station in the area and contact them about doing a story concerning this. The Whistler Group has been in Rogers, AR forever so it should be of interest to them.

There are other places you can send a sick scanner for repair--G&G comes to mind--I've always had good luck with them. Always email them, first: G & G Communications

Also, do as @buddrousa suggested, and tell us about the issues you're having. There are some sharp minds on this site--sadly, I'm not one of them.

Sounds like we have a lot in common! There are a lot of common scanner problems. Many times an operator has changed something to stop it from functioning. Scanners can lose their CPU firmware. What do you see on the display? Please let us know the model number and what it does or doesn't do. If you attach your programming file, we can take a look at it to check for errors. There are many problems you can fix yourself without sending it in for repair.

If you just select 'Whistler' as the brand on Amazon, I see about 15 radar detectors come up. The bare handful that are not tagged as ."temporarily out of stock" are only available from a third party 'marketplace' vendor, mostly with suspicious seller ratings, if rated at all/

Quite some time ago, I bought a Whistler back-up camera for my SUV. At that time, there were at least a dozen Whistler models with various features & configurations. Currently, there are no Whistler units at all listed, not even from 'marketplace' vendors. I checked the same thing about a month ago, and none listed at that time either. As has been noted before, Whistler apparently contracts out manufacturing, as well as shipping logistics. I suspect that, with the small staff size mentioned earlier, repairs are contracted out as well. Hence, the small number of staffers who are actually employees.

OK... prices on eBay are starting to rise on Whistlers P2 types. I just bought another WS1098 for just under $300--except for a small scratch on the case, it's practically new. I think I have enough of them now. Just cannot say no to a bargain.

I seriously doubt that anything I do will help or hinder Whistler in their scanner business pursuits.

Same here. I much preferred GRE/Whistler's user interface over Uniden's.
