• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello. I am looking to aquire an nx-5200 to use as a ham radio and to scan my county fire frequency’s. They use a p25 phase 2 ICORRS system. I currently have a Uniden sds100 and it works just fine with the system. I confirmed that some agency’s in the counties use 5200s but they said they are pretty sure that when the radio connects it sends its serial number and the system will “block” the radio from being able to receive. Does anyone have experience with this? Obviously I would want recieve only.

Kenwood radios can't do non affiliated scan like you can trick a Motorola radios to do NAS.

Best bet is Unication pagers or just keep using your SDS100 these radios are designed to monitor these type of systems and no crazy programming or getting your high dollar bricked for transmitting on the system.

As said above you're best bet is a unication pager, bendix king, and Harris radio with proper firmware and software to non affiliate scan. Kenwood can do it however you would need a system key which is beyond a act of God to obtain unless you're the admin or dealer themself. With it one could passive monitor but you'd need to be on a system using the same system which you'd be authorized like fire needing to monitor police but not transmit. Average Joe it would be no go. Even then it's a controlled and locked down process for a agency to even do. Kenwood doesn't play and their dealers won't risk loosing their license.

They are probably using the Viking vp5000 unless they need nxdn or dmr. Same radio different firmware with nx5000. But same process mentioned above no go for average user to do non affiliate scan. The ones showing it on YouTube got their friends to use a system key and they are at risk of Kenwood pulling their friends dealer license. They don't play around with the system key and non affiliate scan for legit agencies needing it.
