ProScan Version 1.7 Build 2 includes the RadioReference Imports feature, improved Scanner Over IP, and bug fixes.

Supported scanners are the BCD996T, BC796D, BC785D, BC780XLT, BC296D, and the BC250D.

I'm thriving to make this the best Computer Aided Scanning program and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Hello everyone,
I am looking for suggestions and bug reports for ProScan. Please reply here or send me an email with any feedback.

In the meantime, here is a preview of the upcoming version 24.13 (currently labeled as version 24.12, file version 24.12.1.0):
  • Added - You can now change menu items using a mouse click or mouse wheel instead of the big knob.
  • Added - Double-clicking on menu items now drills down to sub-menus.
    • Support for the 780 model will be added this week on the above items.
  • Changed - HP and SDS Scanners - Update Text Tags utility: Reworked the selection box.

Download the update here:

To install, stop ProScan, then unzip and copy the files over the existing ones.

1. In the scanner window there are selections like View, Tools and Support and gets highlighted when the mouse hovers over them. I'm using Win7 so perhaps it works different in other versions, but if I click on one of those items a dropdown selection appears. If I then move the mouse over the two other items it automatically produce the dropdown menu without having to click. Can that be done to automatically produce the dropdown menu while hovering without having to click to enable that mode?

2. Maybe a "Situation Plan" function could be useful. Additional to the View-Tool-Support menu items a Situation Plan menu could be added that has a dropdown menu of something like SP0 up to SP9 with a user settable name tag to each.

For each SP0-SP9 there's a configuration for Favorite QK 0-99 that can be set to 1 or 2 to disable or enable each favorite list. SP1 could enable FL1-FL4 and disable FL5-FL99 and for SP2 if could be FL1 + FL5-FL7 that are enabled and the rest are disabled. If a FL are set to status 0 it would be untouched and not altered from its current state.

When initially using SP1-SP9 the current state of FL's are read and stored to SP0 to be able to go back to the setup prior to selecting SP1-SP9. If going from SP1 to select SP2 it should not save the SP1 setup to SP0.

There could be a timer setting associated with each SP1-SP9 that can be set to 0 for permanent or 1-250 for the number of minutes that the SP should be active until it automatically returns to the SP0 setting.

There could also be a trigger function for a frequency or perhaps even a TG that when it gets active would trigger one of the SP1-SP9. That would be additional functions to the history logging, to detect an analog frequency(+tone or ignore tone) or a TGid+Favorite/System to trigger SP1-SP9.

I don't know how deep that ProScan are into Windows functions but quick keys from the Windows keyboard might be used and configured with something like Alt+F1 would trigger SP1 on ProScan install #1 and AltGr+F1 would trigger SP1 on ProScan install #2 and the same for F2-F9.

3. If these trigger functions from the history log can be done then perhaps it then also can be done for an Alert system that can be set to a couple of frequencies or TG+system that would trigger a popup window showing just the virtual scanner zoomed in a bigger view using a bigger font, or if it could be done in the normal window.

4. Perhaps an automatic Reverse frequency monitoring function that uses additional ProScan installs. If REV are used in one install it can be configured to what other install# that should be used to monitor that REV frequency and not be done on the scanner that where special REV enabled. If 465.000 are monitored on ProScan#1 and the special REV function are enabled it activates normal REV to check the frequency and sends the REV frequency 460.000 to ProScan#2 to be monitored in Quick Search mode and #1 drops the REV function and are on hold on the original frequency. When special REV are disabled the hold on #1 are released and #2 will go to previous mode or scan.

It could also be working in the opposite way, probably easier to implement, that #1 sends its monitored 465.000 frequency to #2 to be manually monitored and then #2 enables normal REV. It could be a setting that automatically always does this special REV while scanning and stopping on a conventional frequency and after normal timeout will disable REV and continue to scan.

5. If different ProScan installs can actually interact with each other, using environment variables, then perhaps a duplicate ignore function can be done. If the duration timer are ticking in the history log for an analog frequency then any other ProScan install will skip that frequency and will be forced to continue scan. Perhaps it can also be done for digital modes, to check TG+system and continue to scan for other TG's if that TG where already monitored in another install. It should ignore any variables set by its own install#.

6. An awareness function that alerts if any mobile units are close by, indicating that something in the neighborhood are happening. That would use the REV function by sending the digital frequency from a voice channel to another ProScan install and then do REV on that to be able to listen to the mobiles transmit frequency that will be heard if the mobile are nearby. It could actually mute the audio of that second install# and use the squelch detect to generate an "Attention!" type of alert text and an audio alert, that would come from the "wrong" ProScan install.

Win 11 works the same way. It's done. Look for it in the next version.

It sounds way over my head. Maybe the way it's presented. I like to keep things simple. Maybe rewrite so I can grasp the concept better.

ProScan can get as deep as needed, even before the API level. ProScan can communicate with other instances using the SendMessage Win32 APIs.

Probably.

A better word could be Scenario plan. Different setups of FL's that can be saved and quickly fetched. It's almost exactly as the Profile settings in Sentinel but works directly on the scanner and only involves the FL's in the same way that the startup keys are doing, and in some way as virtual scanners in Whistler scanners.

If there is some hidden remote command in Unidens scanners that can trigger the power on startup keys, besides FQK, SQK, DQK there would be a PQK, then that function are exactly what would be used, a quick way of fetching preset selection of FL's. A startup key like 1 can now be set to enable FL 1-2-3 and startup 2 to FL 4-5-6 and startup 3 can be FL 3-4 as one FL can be assigned to several startup keys.

The remote command to select FL's has to include all 00-99 quick keys and their state for each can be set to enable-disable-ignore and that whole string of FQK,2,1,0,0,2,..........,0 could be saved to a menu selection as well as a Windows keyboard hotkey configuration, if ProScan can make use of it. Each different configuration of a FQK string can be saved to its own location, SP1, SP2 and so on.

If that would be possible to implement then additional functions can be done that triggers those SP stored settings.

For that special REV function, if one scanner controlled by ProScan can be set as a slave to another scanner, then that other scanner are set as master and configured to use that first scanner as slave, then master are sending the active frequency, the one displayed in the log, to the slave and the slave then do REV on that frequency and temporarily interrupts whatever it is doing. When master continues to scan or duration timer stops, the slave would preferable go back to prior duty, being it scan, search or any other mode it was set to.

The special REV function could be enabled by a menu like in Options or Tools and then a button would appear, perhaps like the ones "Active Row In View" or next to "Audio Control" with a "REV Monitor" label to quickly enable or disable the function.

I would like to see the import function placed on the database tab next to the utilities and get clipboard buttons. I don't reprogram often from the database except for trips and usually forget where the import button is and feel it would be more visible there. Thanks!
