• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I read with great interest an article published in April, 2018 issue of The Spectrum Monitor magazine regarding the introduction of the P25 TDMA mode Control Channel to the P25 Suite of Standards, and how it will benefit system/radio subscribers, along with more efficient use of the RF spectrum. I researched further details from the Project 25 Technology Interest Group, (see: http://www.project25.org/images/stories/ptig/White_Papers/P25_TDMA_Control_Channel_FINAL__170915.pdf) and have three questions (if they can be answered by those involved with a deeper knowledge of the issue):

1. How will this affect the current P25 radio line that have just FDMA Control Channel capability? Will a firmware and/or software upgrade address this issue in the future?
2. How will this affect current P25 scanners (even with Phase II voice channel capability), and will it need a software update or a firmware update?
3. Do any of the P25 manufacturers currently have any P25 TDMA Control Channel capable systems deployed yet, or is this technology too new at this point in time to be incorporated out in the field?

We are not going to see this for quite a while the technology has not yet caught up with the concept.

If I remember correctly, Phase 3 is already or in the process of being implemented as Data. I know Phase 3 according to the P25 standards is MESA, but not sure if this is in conjunction with the LTE initiative or not.

Answers:

1: Probably just firmware update for Phase 2 capable subscribers. Phase one capable subscribers will likely not be compatible, although they would be able to receive and decode it(only the subscribers only key and un-key on time slots) it would be pointless as they would not be able to make use of TDMA.
2: Probably just firmware update for Phase 2 capable scanners.
3: The standard was just completed, so no there are not any TDMA control channel systems in service yet.
