I believe the first set back is, when they decided to have the BCDx36HP series, coming out ahead of the p2 series (325 & 996), they had to know that not all hardcore scanner owners were goning to go for SD cards and Wi-Fi, (not the biggest or grandest selling feature in the scanner market, up to that point). While one scanner was hurriedly brought to market (BCDx36HP series), the other was slowed down (996p2 and 325p2). How did that work for us (as a community)? It's made them sell the farm, and slowed the development timeline, on both series, down to a snails' pace. Some of this may well have been an attempt to stave off, the loss of customers to Scanner Apps. Ultimately their lack of focus (or understanding) to the hardcore customers is what lead to the debacle/fiasco that you see today.
Uniden had been researching and developing, Phase II (2) since Late 2009, early 2010, while they waited for the standard to be finalized. They had a highly capable radio series in the BCD396XT and BCD996XT and some Upper Manager, some where, saw that since there was lots of R&D money going into the x36HP series the Upper Manager demanded for the x36HP series to be put FIRST. They must have thought, we (as a community) would complain if they just came out with a scanner that was minor upgrade (they may have gotten this idea from their BC780 to 785 to 796 or their BCDx96t to BCDx96XT or even their BC895XLT to BC898t,) but they were highly mistaken. Unfortunately, the Upper Manager, didn't realize the most important thing, MONEY, the second most important thing was the BCDx96XT series would become the most highly touted and recommended scanner to date with the least problems, and a minor upgrade/evolution to p2 would allow tons more of R&D dollars to be put into the BCDx36HP series.
Conclusively Uniden brought us an inferior product, not ready for Prime Time. If, they would have put the horse before the cart, they could be bringing us out the new x36HP series of scanners right now, if not sooner, without problems or missing feature, with good stable RTCs and LEDs, a Uniden x36 server running for us to stream, A Siren App capable in both Android and Apple and truly let the, "World without Wires," be true, without any money lost (they have since removed the "W.O.W" from their website). The x36 series of scanners would have in fact, acted to increase Unidens' own bottom line leaps and bounds comparatively to today. Instead, they have lost customers and garnered more attention for whats wrong with their products than what is right, and I personally don't know any business that prefers such an ominous view of their products. This is why Upper Management is often thought of being OUT of TOUCH!
Of course we (as a community) would have problems with users and their Wi-Fi and SD card problems, that's inherent.
Major and Minor bugs, NOT put aside would be helpful as well but some people just have to minimize.
BTW I love my Uniden scanners, I welcomed with open arms, the idea of SD cards and Wi-Fi, knowing there could be hours of frustration of getting those "finessed" into playing well with my wants and needs. I never considered waiting 2 or 3yrs to get an App or a Uniden Server up & running or even a year, just to get the Wi-Fi dongle working. Yeah Yeah I know the Siren App for Apple is out thanks, though!
To glaze over things: yup there've been set backs and it's not my fault, but I am (and many others X36HP owners) are paying the price!
