I'm having issues as well regarding reception, currently I have all the Troop E & K freqs programmed in along with the Waterford System. But unfortunately I have little to no activity on the radio and when I do get something it always sounds junky, I'm located in Thamesville in Norwich.

The odd thing is I doubled and tripled checked my programing to make sure everything is correct, "fine tuned" the settings and I have a good outdoor antenna setup regarding antenna height and coax quality.

So this is the first time in my many years of this hobby that I have no idea whats going on.

Regardless of the hate they get the SDS series , especially with a tweaked favorites list, is the best at receiving CLMRN, particularly with the proper antenna.

My bcd325p2 does receive it but only when signal strength is optimal (which in my apartment it is not).

I have only been in Norwich twice listening to PD but I found they have tons of simulcast overlap, That is great for Portable coverage in town for the PD but will be hell for a scanner not designed for simulcast, my 325p2 was going nuts with tracking them in town, 3 miles out of town and it worked like a champ.
My G5 tracked everything 100% the entire time, but its made for that

"Help please. I picked up a new 996P2 last Friday. Works well except for the state system. Conventional and Waterford P25 are fine. I've read all 88 pages of this thread, the manual, and am stumped.
I'm near the Niantic Bridge in Waterford. Outside antenna approx. 130ft above sea level. Receiving the Troop E simulcast programed with the CC and alternate CC's. at 5 bars consistently. Tried it with the CC only. System set for P25. Squelch set at 1 or 2. Yet even in search mode, I'm getting nothing from the talk groups. Is my system type wrong as P25? Motorola maybe? Fleet map? Decode options?
Pulling my hair out with my upgrade from the 996XT. Need help from somebody smarter than me. Thanks all."

Just for an update.

Downloaded the Trp. E simulcast with FreeScan in addition to Butel. Took a ride to Mystic yesterday and the talk groups (Troop E and Groton Twn. PD) work better on that side of the river. So it doesn't appear to be a bad radio or programing. I think that I may be just too close to the Waterford tower on Daniels Ave. at home. I have ordered a Shure 700mhz antenna due in tomorrow, so we'll see if that works better than the rooftop or stock Uniden.

If anyone has any further ideas, please jump in.

Thank you all for the suggestions.

If that antenna you are getting doesn't help, you can try this one.
I have 2 of them up, and although they are not as good as some of my more expensive Yagis, they do a great job for the price ( which appears to have increased from 19.99 to 24.99 since I purchased them last year ). Sometimes less gain is better when dealing with this type of situation as you are. Find a sweet spot by aiming it until you get the best results. Aiming it directly at the tower doesn't always give the best results when it comes to using it on a non-simulcast capable radio. Incidentally, I used some low cost quad shield RG-6 cable that works great. It is 75ohm as well as the the impedance of the antenna, but you are only receiving so, for all practical purposes, it doesn't make a difference.
Hope this helps.

Wonder if anyone knows what these talkgroups are.
Few of them popped up while at a friends house over night. I checked the clmrn db and they're not submitted.

If they're on the wiki, why hasn't anyone submitted them?
Because they aren't confirmed. When a TG is officially confirmed, it can be submitted and added to the DB. The DB is not supposed to be a "scratch pad" hence why the Wiki page exists. If a TG does become confirmed, you or anyone (with a couple of exceptions) can submit it to be put in the DB, AND you can remove it from the wiki.

Some of those are municipal groups and they can be calculated although the exact use may be unknown
13800, 13801, 13805 - Durham groups
16101, 16102, 16103 - Haddam groups
24401, 24405 - Trumbull groups

Try a paper clip.....I can see 2 towers of the I system from my house and if I use my out door 800 antenna on my 996p2 I get full bars but no audio or very garbled....With a paper clip I get 4 bars and crystal clear...Your issue sounds like simulcast overlap and the paper clip is an easy way to troubleshoot it

I seen USAI Region 2 was updated.
What are the region lines?
Also I see DOT has 4 zones, what are those?
I looked for the DOT zones ones before but it showed zone 1 was half the state and wasn't a ct site so I didn't believe it.

The regions are based on the CT DEMHS regions. Region 1 had a UASI grant back 10 years ago or so and thats where the UASI groups came from. The New Haven area was not a UASI region in the DHS program, not sure why the talkgroups would be labeled as such. There are CT DEMHS maps online. Regional Offices (Good luck trying to read the town names on a smartphone)
The DOT map is online as well. District Map

Since the State has no County form of government, they pretty much ignore the county lines. DEMHS, OEMS, and others use the DEMHS regions. CONNDOT does their own thing as does the CSP.

DOT has 4 districts for highway maintenance plus some service patrol operations on other frequencies. Long term to trunked . legacy system low band

DOT is getting more and more radios on the system all the time. I see over 60 or so mobile radios in service that I have logged. Service patrol is using all trunked radios. I believe the dispatchers are still on the lo band.
The VHF lo channels are patched to the trunked system. If you monitor and hear a radio at the same strength and quality as the dispatcher, they are likely on the trunked system unless they are nearby.

Picking up a new TG I haven't seen listed before;

65530 (more than likely a police department) on the Troop I site
