• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

What seems odd is, weren’t we told several months ago that the $150 MSRP was because of licensing fees and such for the phase 2 codec, or something like that? Now all of a sudden they can give it away for free?

That is odd indeed.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like the codec package that they were using for Phase-I has become unsustainable, and they've decided to use the one that supports Phase-II for everything. They can't really ask Phase-I users to pay for an update, so I guess they decided to just swallow the cost ..... (just my speculation)

Yes, I am!

Good thing I chose to wait this one out. Hopefully Unication will do the right thing and issue refunds to those who paid for upgrades. You guys have every right to be ticked off!

Ticked off is Mild to how angry I am.

Folks I don’t see the big deal. It’s not like they forced you to upgrade back then. That was the deal and I also went for it. I can still upgrade the G4 here and glad it will be for free this time around.

Well, when they offered a 'deal' at $95 with an expiration date, it sorta was 'forced'. And I believe they said it couldn't be installed locally - you HAD to ship the pager to them. Sorry, but this all sounds kind of rotten to me.

I would definitely be annoyed by that too. When I bought my G5, it was with Phase-II support, and that was supposedly "free, for a limited time only". I felt a bit cheated when it turned out that the "limited time only" part was not really true - felt like I'd been baited. If it'd actually paid for something that later became free, I'd be really annoyed.

I understand - I was expressing my feelings about this situation. That's all.

As for shipping, whatever the excuse was, I can see "a" reason behind it. If they offered a paid upgrade that you could do yourself, someone would end-up sharing that upgrade with everyone.

By all means, write to them, request a refund or contact the BBB office with your complain.
I don't think is wrong posting here and venting your frustration but if you are that upset, take action beyond bringing to this forum. I would.

In this case I won't as don't really care.
I'm happy to see they apparently HAD TO offer the upgrade free for all in the end.

I'm pretty ticked off about this whole thing too.

I purchased my non-phase II G4 in March of this year (I believe) right before the "free Phase II" promotion was announced. I talked with Unication USA and was basically told "too bad, so sad, you can pay $150 for the upgrade".

When the limited time $95 upgrade was announced, I paid for it since I figured I might as well get it while it was discounted.

Now it's going to be a freebie for all? What a scam indeed.....
I did the same thing. I plan on filing a complaint with the BBB if Unication doesn't resolve this.

They probably seen all the complaints and legal told them to charge for any update later lol.

Doubt it was because of the complaints ... they wouldn't even do it without checking with their legal team... I suppose.

I'm glad I was able to download it before this shet storm they created. Worse part of all this, is they are blaming this failed launch on a vendor.

Either way, I'll be sharing my copy of this to a few of you guys. No way, in hell should this be monetized.

I'm not sure that it's possible to share (unless you know something I don't) - you could share the RemoteUpdater program, but it won't do anyone any good if the (remote) server is not enabled and working.

Go back and read the first post in this thread. It was from a Unication dealer, not Unication itself. Clearly, that dealer was not authorized to make that announcement. So, yeah, if I was Unication, I'd blame the dealer.
