I only see the adds if I am not logged in. When I log in the adds go away.
And as I have said there are those here that go way out of their way to help others and I support you that do that YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE it is the others that my comment was made about. As stated by the post a few above I get my $30 a year in things learned here plus the database.

Ad blocking is also useful for blocking tracking cookies too.
I recommend the BRAVE Browser.

Prevents ALL tracking mechanisms and blocks ADs:

Interesting, I haven't heard of that one. I wonder if it is any better than uBlock Origin or AdBlock Plus. I doubt there's a way to quantify it.

I run Brave with ublock orgin, no script, avast extension and the brave shield and privacy settings all on aggressive . Great browser, faster than the other mainstream browsers, handles multiple tabs with ease on older equipment. It keeps track of how many trackers and ads are blocked and how much bandwidth you save, and how many hours saved in loading, I'm at 5 hours of my life saved from loading! I'm into the hundreds of thousands of trackers & ads and many many gigabytes saved

Just for fun, I turned off all the ad blockers, loaded up this thread while signed out and was presented with an ad for some "Windows driver update" thing. This is so obviously a scam to me after 30 years of being on the internet, but I clicked anyway. I was bounced around and redirected to a few different urls (always a sure sign of a legit website ) and landed on one of those horrible, advertisement-littered pages with 5 or 6 giant "DOWNLOAD" buttons, scary warnings like "YOUR COMPUTER MAY BE AT RISK.", and lots of verbiage that sounded serious but was comically inaccurate. Obviously I nope'd outta there at that point, but sadly, many people here will fall for this.

Shame on any website that knowingly and purposefully subjects their users to malicious stuff like this. Double shame on any website that tells me I'm hurting their bottom line and asks that I put myself at risk for the sake of their profit.

It all pretty much boils down to this: some of the ads on this website are not harmless. Therefore, I will not allow any ads from this website on my home network or any devices attached to my network.

But there's an upside - RadioReference so lovingly suggested I use an ad blocker on their site, and even recommended one for me!!

It's not RR suggesting that, but target ads, based on cookies on your machine.

No.

Read the very first post in this thread.

👍
I don’t see the connection. You believe that RR is suggesting you use an adblocker when they actually want you stop using one?

I still believe they are targeted, though I have no proof. It’s much more likely someone would click an ad for something they recently searched for instead of something random.

Does RadioReference know if I use an ad blocker? I'm not, but would my account get suspended or anything?

No, if you use superior adblockers like uBlock origin you're pretty much good. The devs of that plugin are highly active and very investigative of anything users report on the github that get past it. It's anti-adblock block is pretty good so you wouldn't get any reminders and you can browse sites like forbes for example without getting walled out.

Ok that's good, I was exploring the different ad blocker options out there but didn't want to cause any trouble. As a new user here, it's kind of intimating to see so many threads where the owner of this site to lashes out with ad hominem attacks on his own users.

I'm the warmest, coolest guy you'll ever meet.

Just look at me in the Turks and Caicos a few days ago.

I really only "lash out" when I'm tested. 😜

Question, did the streaming ads pay for that trip and boat? Its fine if it did, I'm just curious. If it did then my ad blocker might have cost you some bait or hook or maybe some sun block $$.
