• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ok even with the Wideband D1W, it will not do wide band on the UHF Amateur allocation?

If you have the wide band software, you CAN program for wide band across the available spectrum capability of the radio.

Without the wide band software you cannot program wide band anywhere in the UHF radio, ham radio or otherwise.

If you want to run wideband on a Kenwood UHF radio made in the last 10 years, you will need to get the wide band license for the software.

Correct. You want 25KHz, JVC Kenwood is playing the "pay through the nose" business model. Ironic how MSI gives away APX and TRBO CPS for free if one registers for a MyView/Customer Hub account and requests it. Yes, one has to jump through hoops. But it costs nothing versus hundreds of bucks (potentially) then there is this archaic Apple like activation/deactivation process. Sorry, I LOVE Kenwood hardware but KPG-TRASH is a big reason not too many end up on my P25 system. Armada, OTOH, is golden as is Viking.

Been running Kenwood NX for awhile looking at doing some multi deck options in the vehicle. Just don't see that happening. It's lost it's shine on me. Like what was said the activation/deactivation process is a PITA.

Been involved in radio comms for almost 30 years between amateur radio and commercial side in public safety. The Kenwood NX is great but the option hoops drive me nuts.

If you need multiband/multi protocol, there's better solutions coming.

I've got a Tait TP-9800 on loan from our Tait rep. Multiband P25 radio. There's supposed to be a TP-9900 coming soon, that'll be P25 + DMR. Logically a mobile version of these will be available in the near future.

If you just need P25, lots more options.

Not to mention if you forget to deactivate your wideband license before your computer dies, they will not reissue a key. You are forced to purchase it AGAIN.
