eaf 1956: What kind of scanner and antenna combo are you using? KSP can be a little finicky... as trashman points out a good dual band vhf/uhf antenna will pull them in well (I prefer a Diamond RH77CA and also use a Comet SMA 3 with luck)... unless you are mobile program the towers near your location and you should be ok (listen to all of them in the vicinity and then eliminate those that are weak)... if you are using a non-XT Uniden you might have to tweak your P-25 settings and make sure you have entered the freqs as P-25 conventional...

You can hear KSP in MICHIGAN? I am on the border with KY and barely pick up KSP Post 16 across the river....

KC9LVX Evansville, In Feed

Chloe rd at Walters road is in Pikeville, pretty close to West Virginia and Virginia borders! What a signal!

If I'm on a road trip in my POV and want to do some serious monitoring, I'll use a magnetic antenna which has the SMA connector on the end, and attach it to my 396. Don't miss much that way.

Using an antenna tuned for 800 in a metal vehicle is far from optimal.

I've worked down there, and they are pretty high in elevation. You can hear lots of signals from the top of one of the high hills down there. I can talk from there (Flatwoods in Dorton, KY, Pike County) back to Morehead, KY off my portable on low power and my signal has no static what so ever.

Question: From Evansville, IN what towers do I need programed for POST 16? I got 16A1-8 except for 16A-4 and 16B1-8 also except for 16B-4 Do I need all of those or can I just program whichever one comes in best and get all the traffic?

BTW: Evansville is across the river from Henderson, KY

Well, I have a BCD996T but right now I am trying out a BCD996XT Seems like I hear POST 16 A-1 the best, but the scanner seems to wanna stop on KSP Post 16 AIR-GRND which comes in weaker.

Antenna? You gotta hook up an antenna? lol J/K I am currently using a RS Discone as my other antenna is being repaired. Coax, before you ask is BURY Flex low loss. Leftover from my 2 m/440 setup.

Just program in the post "A" and post "B" frequencies that you receive the best. You might also throw in 453.300 analog and P-25.

Thanks for the help guys, I put the proper antenna on and was able to hear everything. I noticed that KSP handles a lot more local stuff than Illinois State Police does. In fact KSP had a nice speed trap as I was going down a hill that was on a curve on a highway, not the interstate. Usually you would see the local municipality do something like that in Illinois.

Yes, in my county atleast, the sheriff's deputys do nothing but escort funerals and serve supeonas and the like. KSP is where the actions is at.

KSP Computer System Down at Post 16 Henderson

Henderson has been reporting all day that their computers are down which also is affecting the radio system. Dispatchers are using back-up radio system with just one radio. Troopers are reporting the dispatcher is coming across their radios as "Robotic". Is this going on anywhere else in the state or just Post 16 ?

This was due to thier McAfee antivirus software. I found a newspaper article about this this AM. Computer glitch affects police, school computers police, schools, state and local governments scramble to adapt

There is a nice statement in the article from KSP about the "splotchy" service in rural Kentucky.
Hope this helps.

Has anyone noticed the problem with KSP today. Early this afternoon I didn't hear anything from E-town or Frankfort. When I started picking up Frankfort I heard one of the troopers say he was having trouble with his radio. Frankfort dispatch stated that the Franklin county troopers stated were having problem. Frankfort dispatch has run several radio checks. One female trooper was transmitting then all of a sudden nothing. After 15 minutes later I heard her say can you hear me Frankfort. I finally started picking up E-town but E-town dispatch or the troopers indicated they were having any problems. There still seems to be problems with E-town and Frankfort. There are longer than normal delays between transmissions with both E-town and Frankfort. Usually I receive real clear transmission from E-town and Frankfort but both keep cutting in and out especially E-town. Has anyone else around the state noticed anything?

Thanks,

Paul

Currently, I am hearing the KSP on 460.2375 MHz, in P25 mode loud and clear here in Michigan. Maybe someone can help locate, which Post I am hearing?

The patrol unit is out on Chloe Road by Walters Road, looking for a subject at a house. They said that the Sheriff had checked the girlfriend's house on Summit Drive, but her car was not at home. Any clue as to where this might be at in the Bluegrass State?

I believe that is the Pikeville post

I just bought a digital scanner (PRO-2096) & I live in east Daviess County. I programmed the scanner for the KSP Whitesville Transmitter, but only heard the transmissions for a little while. Then, I heard nothing at all. However, I do hear the traffic from the Henderson East transmitter, which usually comes in well. So, I just took Whitesville out & programmed Henderson East. But, just for curiosity, any ideas on why the traffic is not on the other transmitters besides Henderson East?

It is most likely because the Whitesville repeater is not receiving the transmission in order to send it back out. The Reed repeater and the Henderson Post repeater might be better for you depending on where the mobile unit is when it is transmitting. You might also try the Cloverport repeater.

Thanks. I seem to be getting all of the traffic now on Reed. Most of the time it works as it is supposed to. However, sometimes my scanner (PRO-2096) will not digitally encode at first, so that I hear the analog noise on the frequency. Once a press scan or mode (or any other button) it automatically switches to digital, and I hear the conversation. It doesn't do this most of the time, but is annoying when it does. I programmed the frequencies as FM. The manual says it will do this if it is a very weak signal. Any help on this one?

I had a 2096 when it first became available and I remember that the latest firmware (UPG_14) that was released did not work well on KSP. I reverted back to (UPG_13) and it worked better for decoding P25 digital for KSP.

Thanks for all your help & the file. If I buy a PC USB cable for the scanner (mine didn't come with one), I would be able to load this file onto it, right? I think the radio shack website said that a cd comes with the cable. That would have the program I need, wouldn't it?
