Heard a new TG earlier on the Indian Camp site, 26275. Sounds like they were checking roads for potential flooding and some other damages in the region.

Some conversations I've heard - "424 to richard" "Yeah go ahead, over. What do you need me to do?" "You wanna come up and get started on 34/35 I'm going to go up to 57 and hit the loop and 33, then work my way back towards 35/34 over."

"428 to Andy" "I copy lee, go ahead." There's a tree on 10 that's off the road, but we'll have to come back and clean it up."

"34 in from Wellston, off of 80 there, it's good so far this way I'm going to jump down to 86".

They also have jokes - "Hey randy why did the chicken cross the road?" "He didn't have anything better to do" "About got squeeeshed".

I'm not sure who this could be. Thinking it's got to be local engineers, whether Wellston, Jackson or possibly Vinton, right? AFAIK Jackson County Engineer is still using DMR though, but I haven't heard him speak on DMR for awhile. Maybe an ODOT talkgroup but their talkgroups tend to be up in the 50k range.
I took a quick look at Google Maps out of curiosity, those road numbers all came back as county roads, mostly west of Wellston although one was west of Hamden and one down around Pattonsville. Probably Jackson County Engineer, but would take more monitoring to be sure.

They've talked quite a bit, just hard to fully identify them when all they really talked about was driving and reporting damage or conditions. I just think it would be unusual for Jackson County's Engineer to go to MARCS. Last I heard, they moved to DMR because another department supplied them with some old radios. I wouldn't think the county would have enough cash to get the engies set up with expensive MARCS gear, but I'm just speculating at this point.

But if it is JCO Engineer, that just leaves Wellston PD and Jackson County fire as the only departments continually using DMR for most/a lot of their communications.

If y'all would like to listen yourselves, I have a private rdio-server set up and would message y'all the IP if interested.

The Jackson County Engineer is transitioning to MARCS along with the rest of the county. I recognize those unit numbers from the days they used 37.98 MHz. And yes, those are all valid county road numbers. And the joking over the air -- definitely the Engineer's road maintenance crews. We had some significant flash flooding this week so that explains the radio traffic.

Thank you for confirming! I'll go ahead and submit the talkgroup to the MARCS page.

When I was younger I don't recall ever hearing the Engineer or crew talk so I wasn't sure. Probably due to relying on horrible indoor antennas. But I also moved to Chillicothe for 10-15 years back in say, 2005 so I missed a lot. Loved those early days though, when you could snoop around and hear your neighbor's phone calls. :ROFLMAO: Good times.

I expect the engineer is going to be really busy by the time Friday gets here, still plenty of rain between now and then.

Been picking up lots of new traffic on TG 16923 off the 3 Fairfield Co sites I monitor. Sounds like a bus service, probably Fairfield Co Transit/LINK, but all the traffic is very generic and haven't heard any confirmation that is the agency. They are definitely working the Lancaster and Fairfield Co area with the addresses and street names they are mentioning. Submitted to db, but they would like more confirmation. Anyone else seeing this traffic or have any more information?

Listening while comparing route info and stops ( Transit - Fairfield County, Ohio ) might be useful.

@jjbllitz

If I were you I would definitely submit 16923 as Fairfield County LINK. I listened to traffic from 6/20, and they mentioned routes like NORTH, MEMORIAL. And if you look at Transit - Fairfield County, Ohio you'll see those routes mentioned.

So you pretty much called that one correctly right off the bat.

Going to do some multi-county traveling today using the gps i just bought for sds100. Looks like once i leave Cleveland, I can pretty much scan full database and lock on to MARCS for police/fire to speed up the scanning? Does that sound about right? I’m setting the range to 2.0 miles to try and reduce scanning of unwanted sites. First attempt at the GPS function. Feedback appreciated!

In the past I've found Range 0.0 to be better, but YMMV.

Any suggestions on getting the conventional channels out of the scan? I don’t need each county’s conventional channels since most use MARCS, GCRCN, etc. They really slow down the scan.

I don’t have proscan. I work off a MacBook. I thought it would be a good idea to ask another member directly who is knowledgeable and was nice enough to suggest another tip. Thanks for your contribution.

Anybody got a clue what talkgroup 57252 is, in the Columbus area? It keeps popping up on my search, but by the time I get it locked in, they're not talking anymore.

I've seen a whole variety of IDs pop up, including the Columbus water department.

They were flipping switches or something, to "A Sludge". And they talked about "flows"

That might give a clue. Maybe its a TG for dealing specifically with alarms. Don't know.

I think it’s Division of Sewerage and Drainage. I put it on the unconfirmed TG wiki page long ago with that tag but was never fully confident.

Sludge sounds maybe like one of the sewage treatment plants (Jackson Pike or Southerly). They used to use in-house UHF systems with passive antennas in the tunnels and didn't want to get away from that; guess they may have moved to 800 MHz in the last couple of years.
