Ok now my home scanner is a bc780xlt. So i should use the "Remote scanner over IP" tab on the proscan software and follow those instructions to be able to have control of it from my work computer?

I have a Netgear N150 wireless router model #WNR1000 running off my Time Warner cable modem. I also have a Netgear universal wifi range extender model #WN2000RPT to extend the wireless in my house. I logged into the wireless router setup but i cant find anything for port forwarding? Thanks

Yes you will use the "Remote scanner over IP" tab to be able to control from work.

Get your Local IP address for the computer.
There are a couple ways of doing this, the easiest way is to go to the tab "Source Client / Web Server" Tab page in Proscan and when you do you will see anther two tabs below the other tabs. Choose the "Web Server" then you will see a button "Get My IP", click that and it will give you the Local and Outside IP addresses. Write down the Local one, this is the address we need to tell the router to forward the port to.

Now log into your router and on the left side you should see a "Port Forwarding / Port Triggering" (It will be under advanced in the pictures that I'm looking at) After clicking that you should see a Radio Button for Port Forwarding and anther for Port Triggering. Put the dot into the "Port Forwarding" radio button.

You will see a button at the bottom that says "Add Custom Service" Hit it. Now you it will ask for a "Service Name" You can name it whatever you like but 'Proscan' would be a good choice.

The next would Protocol use the drop down menu and choose "TCP"

Now you have the "Starting Port" and "Ending Port", use Proscan's default of 5000 in both places.

"Server IP Address" use the address that you wrote down earlier.
Hit the apply button and you should be done with the router side of things.

In Proscan go to the "Remote scanner over IP" tab page.
Mode choose the radio button for Server.
Server make sure the "Server Port" is 5000
Give it a password (this is only used to control the scanner you can still have listeners that can connect to the scanner without the password)
Hit the "Get my IP" button this will fill in the "Published Server IP Addre. or Name" for you
Select your Country, State and County / Region.
Publish Description give your server a brief description.
and Finally hit the "Start button"

So I have owned this for a couple months and I am really loving it. I just have a quick question. I am formatting the file name for the recordings and I have it set the way I want it with one small issue. The time is outputted as for example 8-09-36 PM instead of 8:09:36 PM. Is there a way to set this so the time is formatted correctly without the dashes and use : instead that I may just be overlooking or is this how it is coded in the software to format it?

-Thanks

I don't think windows will allow you to have a file named with the character ':' (just try to manually rename it with the : character)

The colon character ":" is a special character and Windows don't allow them for file names. So the dash character is substituted for the colon character.

Oh yeah, good call I forgot about that. I mostly use a Mac and don't have that issue with those characters.

Is it possible to use underscore for time then just to differentiate between time and date a little easier? If not no worries.

It is under a diffrent tab then "Remote Scanner Over IP" it is under "Source Client / Web Server" tab. See Below:

Like I say this is just to obtain your Local Ip address the easiest way (their are many other ways of doing it)

Yes i did find those screens. It just shows all zeros across in the locap ip box?? Is it possible my anti-virus software is blocking it? I'm using the Microsoft Security Essentials. Thanks for sticking with me on the setup help. I don't think i would have gotten this far without help.

No problem with the help. I also run MSE anti-virus, so that isn't it. Did you hit the "Get My Ip" button?

Here is another way to obtain your local ip:

Go to Start Menu in Windows: All Programs:
pNN6dxw.jpg

Accessories: Command Prompt
Yvz5Jbd.jpg

Then type in: ipconfig
OvHAGBo.jpg

your screen may have addition info if you have a wireless but you should be able to find your local IP. As you can see I have the IPv4 circled that is what you want, with what ever connection you use. It should be a number starting with the 192.168.X.X and should not be the same as your router.

Yes did hit the box button and it just shows zeros across the whole box. It did bring up the outside ip but wouldn't show the local one. I will try this over the weekend when i get some freetime and hopefuly be able to get it up and running.

On another note i am also running a BC15X on the same computer as my BC780XLT. I was able to get a seperate ProScan window setup to run the 15X. My question is i only have one soundcard to record the audio to from both scanners. I had posted about this sometime ago and finally got the cable i needed. I was told to get a rca cable with the 1/8" mini plug. I have the phono plug into the computer mic input and plugged one of each of the other ends into the scanner tape outputs and used a mono adapter per what i was told. My 780XLT has been running on the software for about a year or more without problems recording the audio. Now with this setup i had turned down the audio on one side of each of the channels. I can't seem to get the output on the BC15X? Did i miss something on the setup? Thanks again!

When programming the bc15x did you mark all the "Systems" to record All Channels? You have to do this to export audio through the rec out on the BC996XT (I believe it to be the same with the bc15x)

Did you update ProScan to 6.6, which was released last night? The post right above yours is from Bob announcing it was just released.

ProoScan 6.5 was running when the MS update took place in the wee hours. When I restarted 6.5 it got the dreaded MS message. I did a system restore to get rid of the automatic update before I realized 6.6 had been released. As soon as I manually installed 6.6 as a replacement, problem was fixed. My system restore was a waste of my time unfortunately. I will put those updates back in next week. As, so is life in a MS world.

That did work with the 6.6 Thanks

On another note i also have a 15X Bearcat running with another copy of proscan and i am having a problem getting audio from both scanners into my laptop. I have a rca cable with one of each of the ends going to the tape out jack on my 780XLt and the 15X and the 1/8" stereo plug goes to the Mic input. I have a stereo to mono adapter on the tape output side, but i am only getting the 780 recording.I have no sound from the 15X. I do have record all chs marked on the software. Is there something that i have missed?? Thanks
