• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So more jumping through hoops just to get an updated firmware for my device! [emoji23]

I mean, why can't this be easily posted on your website? Let me, guess it's super duper top secret...

First the hissing noise from my G4 speaker due to cheap components... Then to Phase 2 being delayed... Now to beg the dealer for an updated firmware....

GOTCHA!!!! [emoji23] #WhatAJoke

Yes, want to update but can't because have to contact and beg for the firmware from
seller. What a bunch of crap.

Got the firmware updated, once again Ray is SUPER FAST at handling customer requests (all I got from him was the amplified charger after ordering my G4 from ScannerMaster). Definitely planning to order more Unication stuff from him in the near future.

Testing it out the firmware now and will report back a little later on my observations later in the day.

Aa a matter of fact, I have been trying to sell it. Unfortunately, I haven't had any bidders.

I sell it to you, it's a G4 with a hissing noise on the speaker? Which apparently is a design flaw.
The hissing noise is very faint and is when something breaks squelch , noting wrong with it

Updated firmware on my G4 - upon reboot, the radio received a single call - display didn't update and then the radio crashed/rebooted. Repeat - same thing.

Created a new simple configuration with the new PPS and applied it to the G4 with the new firmware - radio crashes and reboots during/after the first voice call received.

Just keeps rebooting.

Did I miss something?

EDIT: After crashing and rebooting several times - and a single press of the replay button (hearing a few recordings) - it now seems to be working including displaying talkgroup names and radio IDs on voice calls.... Seems like it needed to spit up/out "old" stuff and it now feels better (I guess)...

I lost my audio. I have to press the left button to hear anything, when I let go, the audio mutes. I didn't change a thing in the PPS.

Looking around to see what I can find.

Got the new PPS but it said you have to go thru the dealer to get the firmware update? Is this right? Emailed dealer and got an out of office reply so I hope this is not a normal issue

It Ray's Pagers is your dealer, read the whole email -- look closely.

FYI - I can confirm a wildcard talkgroup (FFFF) works now (the good) -- unfortunately, the first thing(s) I hear are encrypted voice calls (the bad).

Sounds a bit ridiculous to me also. Unication needs to re-think this dumb policy and release both with the same download. I fail to see what the big deal is here. Just making it harder for us to update.

...spoke too soon -- it's back to rebooting again.... what I am seeing now is the screen dimming with no activity then a call and the screen remains dark - after a few seconds or at the end of the call - the radio reboots.

err, scratch that - just rebooted after a reboot before any voice call

Can I be a beta tester in the future (or am I doing that now)?

EDIT: I modified my profile and set the first knob position to disable voice recording/buffering and the radio worked for a while without rebooting. Then, I switched to another knob position (that still had voice recording enabled) - the radio crashed/rebooted upon the first call.

Is there maybe an incompatibility with the voice storage in this new firmware? Maybe not - I deleted all onboard messages and it still crashes on knobs where recording is enabled.

EDIT, edit: ok - now the knob with recording disabled is crashing -- time to see if I can back this firmware out............................................

I was able to back out to the previous firmware and PPS and things are working again (so far)....
