That may or may not be a good thing though. Lighter means it could fall over easier. Does anyone have feedback on how sturdy this unit is when sitting on a tabletop?

In response to your's as well as many others concerned with the SDS100's base and may be easily tipped over, I've created a very short video comparing the SDS100 to the 436HP.

My Anker Power Drive 2 is powering + charging as well.

The scanner display shows the date and time in that photo. So let's say you have a spare battery pack as a backup for extended use/power outtages. If you unhook one battery pack and put the other one on, how does the scanner keep the date and time while it has no battery for a moment?

There's an internal power solution for the clock. Unknown to me if it's like the previous models or different.

I have only set date and time on 2 occasions for 2 separate Bata models during initial power on.

I believe it was stated that the final version will have a textured case, not the smooth shiny test version we see now.
Attached pictures show the difference in finish. On the left initial beta unit and on the right Beta2 (almost finialized)

Any issues with scratching on the display itself? My TRX 1 had that issue even with careful handling? How tough is the display itself from scrapes and scratches?

Thanks

Beta 2 still has the factory film covering the display. Both of my beta 1's aquired slight scratches on the display area as I'm very hard on them.

It's still unknow if production models will be the same material to me. If they are I'll install a cheap screen protector.

I’d be willing to pay a little extra for sapphire glass.

Just kidding.

Has Uniden considered gorilla glass?

On an entirely different note, do the keys have backlighting?

Does the display washout in bright light? Or is it bright enough to be legible?

It's pretty easy to buff out scratches from the plastic lens over the display.

Unknown about Gorilla Glass being considered.

The display at 100% in direct sunlight can be seen clearly in black and white mode.

See attached for Keypad backlight.

That makes me wonder if it's a little watch battery or a capacitor. If it's a watch battery, then hopefully it's the kind we can replace whenever it dies out. Otherwise, this might be a concern. If it's a capacitor, hopefully it won't ever die out or else that could be a concern also.

Do we know how the scanner will behave if it loses this "internal power source"?

Why is the clock that important? I'm pretty sure my HP2 has a clock but I can't say that I have ever accessed it in the 3 years I have owned the scanner.

For some the recorded sessions have a timestamp which is important to be accurate.

It's not so much the clock that I care about, but how it's powered. Will it be a potential defect / point of failure down the road?

Pretty simple answer if you use the recording feature it is important. If you don't not so much. A simple read of the manual or a Google search has the information on it.

I am sure they fixed this for the sds 100. As a campaign is still available to fix the x36hp line for the clock problem and display issues it had in the early production run.
