For all the self proclaimed doubters out there, how many enthusiast forums pay their Admins, pay their mods, pay their subject matter experts on everything from 1930's BMW motorcycle transmission rebuilds to Royal Doulton china and dinnerware collections? None that I know of.

Enthusiast forums are a labor of love for those who have an interest. No one is compelled to participate, no one here is forced to become a premium member, and no one is made to stay. Aside from the owner, we don't monetarily profit from this forum, but we aren't responsible for hundreds of thousands of dollars in costs annually. I admire that someone is able to make a profit from this aspect of the radio hobby.

If you have no sense of self-worth and demand your victim status, go hang out at the nearest university psychology department. Dozens of people are waiting to share their deficits with you. If you have a narcissistic personality and are assigning blame to Lindsay for stealing your idea and the money long before you ever had it, go get some psychiatric help - you need it. If you feel that you are owed money for participating here - go get an Intro to Sociology text and study the "common stock of knowledge". You'll come to realize that you owe humanity one heck of a debt for giving you, without cost in most cases, what you enjoy and know now.

It's now time to go add another name to the Ignored Users list.

I hope your not including me in your "victim" list. I simply don't want to see ads, don't want the potential security risk from those ads and don't want to pay any $$ to visit this site. As long as there is a way around all that I will continue to use the site for free and with no ads.

If the annoying ads here paid the site owner $1,000 for every flash of the ad, I don't care and more power to the site owner. If this site was on the verge of going out of business and needed just one more paid subscriber to make payroll I would not contribute any $$ and would still use my ad blocker. Call me cheap, call me whatever but those are my rules and many others have a similar outlook on the situation.

Most people I know don't carry that kind of debt. In other words, my relationship with humanity is reciprocal. You're right though. We are surrounded by many people who contribute nothing of value to anything.

This site provides valuable information...there is NO other site that does so, at any price. When I look at the number of registered users (paid and non-paid), it really is unbelievable. It does show there are many enthusiasts out there. I'm sure when this site was first started, no one could imagine that it would be so popular. But it is, and still growing. I could imagine the time, effort, and capital spending required to keep this site up and running is growing as well. When you look at a one year subscription to Radio Reference, it is quite a bargain. For those wishing to forgo subscribing, looking at hobby related ads on the site should not be overbearing. It would be a shame to have members leave over this, as many have provided valuable advice and information over the years. Regardless, individuals are entitled to their personal reasons either for or against this proposed change. That must always be respected.

No. I respect your knowledge and views.

My post refers to another person who contributes nothing by way of funding, knowledge, or enthusiasm; yet complains about the ownership, administration, and virtually everything else.

We all owe those who are doctors, dentists, auto repair techs, AC techs, morticians, teachers, builders, farmers, and others. They hold knowledge we need to exist and live well.

Lindsay,
Can I make one suggestion? Remove the Adblock “check”/”wall” from the front page. That would give Premium members the chance to login first.

I will continue to use this site for free with my ad blocker on until the point I can't access this site with my ad blocker on.

We are not interested in blocking access to anyone who has an ad blocker. But our plan is to gently encourage you to become a premium subscriber if you don't want to see ads on the site.

That is the whole purpose and process behind what we are doing. Period.

The nag screen combined with the ability to still use the site for those folks choosing to use ad/track blockers is more than a fair compromise, I must admit.

I want to throw this in here . back when I joined up it was free but you had a choice to buy a subscription and I didn't but I've learned a lot since then . but I remember when this site was hacked and every body was told to change pass word's . That was bad and very scary and that's why I didn't buy a subscription to this site .

I've vented enough and if im forced off so be it but im not buying a subscription .

odd response. 4 years ago, I was advised by a health care provider that my personal information was hacked. Ironically, I never had online communication with this provider...only landline contact. take that for what it is worth...

I don't think @KOK5CY was implying that. I interpreted his comment as referring to this incident where RadioReference exposed 25% of its users to a personal information leak due to mis-handling a query, not wanting to purchase a subscription because of this.

I was just going by what he posted...

Which wouldn't have mattered if you were premium or not.
