Issue Resolved with a windows upgrade
I'm not very clear on this. Can you clarify.
Can or can not? These two statements sounds contradictory. You didn't mention the volume knob if that moves.
Adjust what setting? Windows Mixer?
Did you see the post from ak4fn, please answer the questions so we can help.
What was happening is the volume of the scanner would automatically ramp all the way up for reasons unknown while connected to the software. I was using a windows 8 machine that had been unused for some time. After running windows update and finding out that Windows 8 was no longer a supported OS (I am a Mac user 99.99% of the time and this machine was just collecting dust) I was forced to upgrade to Windows 10. After all was said and done, Windows 10 installed, PC was fresh without who knows what from windows 8 throwing wrenches at the keypad, all is well now.
I appreciate the time taken to respond to my question. My issue has been resolved. My guess is Windows 8 had something to do with it. This is only speculation. Problem no longer. That's what counts, right? Now I'm on to antenna issues with a rubber duck antenna and a metal framed home. Time to run some cable and get an antenna mounted outside.
