Can IDOT talk to ISP on Starcom ? I often here ISP say IDOT has been contacted. Just wondering how they it by radio or by phone ? and after IDOT on scene ? Am I missing talk groups ?

They should be able to. Prior to moving to StarCom, when only the supervisors had StarCom radios, I would hear them talk to ISP every now and then. The IDoT ETP units in Chicago talk to troopers on Chicago Car-to-Car.. However, in general, the ISP dispatcher calls IDoT on the phone.

IDoT units seem to have access to ISP talkgroups. Early today there was an accident around here on I-80 and I heard an IDoT trunk on their "local" talkgroup say he heard ISP dispatch the crash.

Why they don't interop more is beyond me

Thanks for the info MickeyC. I know IDOT radios have a scan on them. Allows them to hear other IDOT yards & ISP and not miss a call from there own yard. It seems there has been a lot 0f 10-50s on I 80. That is what got me thinking about this.

Most of the time contact between dispatchers for different agencies would be done by phone, just like it would be between PSAPs if they're too far to use Point to Point.

In the Chicago area, IDOT District 1 Emergency Traffic Patrol (ETP, aka "Minuteman") units often contact troopers on ISP District Chicago's SC21 car-to-car talkgroup when responding to incidents on the expressways. Dunno if ISP and IDOT have access to each others' talkgroups "downstate". If the stuff really hit the fan, they could talk using ITTF, etc. interop TGs if they are programmed in IDOT radios.

I noticed today that Stardcom 21, DuPage towers, (DuComm), changed control channels some time this morning. Hearing nothing from any agency in DuPage, but SC21 in Cook was still good. I entered the 1st Alt Control and got it all back. CC moved from 773.84375 to AC 774.18125.

Since about 9am there's been a disaster drill taking place on Tg 30304, Ittf reg2b Some interesting chatter about switching frequencies, etc. :wink: 73, n9zas

Most of the traffic is on Public Health 3 (4649) with regional IDPH offices working IDPH Springfield. Some local traffic on Public Health (30331) on the various IDPH EMS Region talkgroup. There's also been traffic on at least ISP EMS 2A with ISP escorts and IDoT trucks. I assume EMS 1A and 3A are in use in the appropriate locations around the state too.

That does sound about right, although this was taking place Tuesday. Most of the related traffic from Springfield and IDPH was on Reg2 nw. Tg 30304. Thanks for the link :wink: 73, n9zas

Some Good Ducting From Zone 1

This morning there was some good ducting on Starcom21. Picked up a lot of towers from Zone 1. On the Sterling tower I heard ITHA: North Maintenance / HELP Trucks [F-2] on TG 2002. There was some Enc with this talkgroup.

That's weird, there isn't normally. Only talkgroup there's normally encryption on is 2003 that the money collection trucks use, which is patched to (if I remember right) 2007.

It was a mix of enc and in the clear. I thought the enc could of been coming from the help trucks. I was using my old pro96 when I heard it and since that radio does not capture radio ids. So I could not see the id.

. I wonder if you didn't have a D15 unit in your area from up here for training? That would explain the affiliation with zone 1 talkgroups. The only time I hear springfield or peoria cars, are when they come upstate for a relay. It could have been ducting though, it was crazy! :wink: 73, n9zas

It was actually coming thru on the Sterling, IL tower not the Peoria County Simulcast. Control channel 851.9875.
