I think I will wait for Uniden to get it right. My old version 14 works for now.

Exactly. The smart user always reads thru the forums and makes the decisions based on people that got too happy too quick to see if the firmware upgrade went well or it went South.

My radio works just fine. No firmware upgrade or pulling my hair out today. All is good so far.

No squelch related problems, I programmed VHF Civilian Air band and both Mil Air Bands in Custom Searchw and things look fine with either AM or FMN demod.

Squelch behaves as expected on the one 546HP that I played with.

Still think Volume appears to be lower than before.

I’m one of the unintelligent people that hope for better support through research . Too much to ask for that an update is put through testing before it drops? My three upgrades to this scanner and actuall scanner cost , screams excellent support if that offends anyone . That’s unintelligent

Bad Firmware Update for BCDx36 Scanners

I hope this isn't something Uniden is hoping for so we all go out running to purchase the new SDS100 scanner coming out later this year. Because if Uniden can't get a simple firmware update right, then why bother with them and their lacking scanners.

Exactly my point .

I set 1.14.00 to be the current firmware on our server. You can revert using Sentinel.

The squelch issue does not show up immediately...and doesn't seem to show up at all on some units. But, I have pulled the update until engineering has a chance to study. If you need to revert, use Sentinel. If you want to continue to play with the other new stuff that is working (in trunked mode), don't update.

Hello all. Well, for the life of me, I don't understand why so many of you are having so many varied problems. Here is the short list of the handicaps I put in the way of my update:

1. I use a mid-2011 MacBook Pro running macOS High Sierra v. 10.13.3

2. Emulation software is VMware Fusion v. 10.1.1

3. Running Windows 10 Pro v. 1709

4. Internet connection via Personal Hotspot on an iPhone SE running iOS 11.2.6

5. Cellular carrier is AT&T while travelling through central MI on broken roads with spring suspension, weighing 60,000 and switching between LTE and 4G coverage with widely varying signal strength

6. Radio end of my USB cable is bent, so connection is suspect, at best

7. Performed update approximately 15 minutes after UpMan's initial posting

My 436 took the update on the first try with absolutely zero issues and is performing flawlessly.

Keep up the good - no, GREAT work, UpMan!!

So here is what I am experiencing :

If a frequency is entered in Sentinel software;
If the field under audio option is on search

Then the scanner will stop on that frequency
the squelch will open and not resume scanning
regardless of squelch setting.

Have not listened to air bands so cannot
comment on that.

Any issues at this point are no big deal to me...so I'll leave it on 1.15.

I am still feeling that I have to (at a minimum) HOLD on a specific single frequency NX4 "system" to receive on a regular basis. I typically run all systems in ID Search mode... however, for this system, even HOLDing doesn't seem to be enough. Now, if/when I "store" a talkgroup ID, reception seems to be better ... almost as if ID Search just doesn't cut it.

I did just see my first "alias" though ... so, that's a positive.

I didn't notice anything regarding the volume, but now the squelch setting seems to be off. As in, the squelch seems to want to stay open all the time on conventional VHF and UHF frequencies. I keep having to adjust it higher.
I can say this as well. I just went for a drive this afternoon and frequencies I know I should never hear anything from all of a sudden had open squelch noise. Quite a pain in the a$$ driving down the highway.

But I will say this. This is welcomed as others mentioned about the continued firmware support for the 436/536 models. Thank you.

For those complaining about it having bugs and would rather wait. That's great. Go ahead and do that. But for those that go ahead do these updates and find these bugs. If it weren't for us reporting the bugs. Then you wouldn't have a radio that you seem to think should be perfect. Folks we're dealing with acute computer software for our electronics. Nothing is ever perfect. So deal with it.
