Does Anybody else thinks Uniden needs to step up its game and address some of the complaints Customer are having with the SDS scanners?,

Unication is launching new features for there G4/G5 pagers? That could be a game changer JMO....BTW for me, My SDS100 works great on Ohio MARCS, That's the only System I monitor

I just want to tell you I get a kick out of your title underneath your username. You don't hear that term too often anymore but at one time it was thrown about this forum on a daily basis in contentious conversations LOL

For my money, and my newspapers money spent on SDS radios sure I would like a few more updates fine-tuning a few issues. Some of the issues could not be addressed with just a firmware update.

That's part of the fun of the hobby is an announcement through this website communication from the company to go to your computer, hookup, get an update offering some new Option or fix. That was always fun.

That happened with Uniden for one reason and that was the person who oversaw the SDS project and enjoyed applying updates and improvements.

Life Goes On and that person is no longer here.
The crickets chirping as issues pop up pretty much says it all. Things have changed, Life Goes On, and as one person here said...

It is what it is.

Oh, to answer your question in your first paragraph, my answer would be... Yes, that would be great, you never know what will happen in the future (y).

What are all these issues popping up?
Simply answering a posters question, it's an interesting thread with good comments from some notable members.

I do miss the old days when we had regular interaction with a representative from Uniden about issues that pop up. We all miss that.

Let me just say I do like my SDSs especially after all of the updates that improved them.

I consider the x36s excellent radios but a little long in the tooth. Not sure about the future of further updates for them. When talking about updates or the lack of them it affects all the models.

I imagine you follow these threads so you've got to know about Q1 Q2, CSJ, rotary knob malfunction, broken battery doors, whatever, you notify Uniden and you send the radio in and they repair it but we don't hear much from someone who discusses these issues with us.

I guess you don't know what you have till you lose it.:)

No, I admit I haven't followed every thread in the forums lately so I have missed some of that. That's why I asked.

Yes, I think losing Paul was a huge loss to all of us, even those in the hobby who aren't on these forums. Hopefully someone will fill his shoes and be passionate about the scanning market...though I'm not sure anyone can truly fill his shoes.

Anyone else keep getting false excitement from seeing a thread titled "BCDx36HP - Firmware Update" and then find that the past 7+ pages have nothing to do with the firmware update in question?
I was curious about a software update as well "for the 436", but it seems, that all 436/536 threads end up getting Hijacked by the ton's of SDS comments about its shortcomings and substandard manufacturing issues. Maybe the moderators need to be moving SDS comments back to SDS threads.

As for my x36 scanners the last firmware update fixed a few things on the NXDN side for me and did not cause any other new problems for me.
This Thread was started by Paul one year ago regarding a new update introduced at that time. It is not about any new updates currently. It is interesting how threads are resurrected and trend towards talking about the SDS radios. It seems like a natural progression, hence, all the issues are discussed.

When I applied the update I was hoping there would be an improvement in the performance of my P2 simulcast system but there wasn't. I didn't notice much difference between modulation and audio myself but I appreciate others did.

I like the performance of the 436 on my NX48 system but it's not as good as the SDS but that's not the radios fault LOL.

Have a happy and safe Easter everybody, be safe out there.

I am rather odd, but I wish that Uniden would make a SDS 100 with one main feature, the ability to properly decode. I could not care less about all of the bells and whistles. I wish they would upgrade the 436HP and leave well enough alone.

Something told me not to buy the SDS 100. If I were to purchase, I would only buy the SDS 200 due to one simple fact. I am sick and tired of buying special batteries. That was the deal breaker for me.

I appreciate being able to share my thoughts and opinions. Thanks.

What issues do you have with it not decoding?

What I meant to say was this. I would like to have a 436HP with the necessary hardware to decode like the SDS 100. I do not care for all of the eye candy on the screen. I want a rat-rod radio. Plain and simple P25 decoding, no B.S. I don't need to hear sirens and see flashing lights and pretty colors across the room like some folks. To each his own. It is just not my cup of tea.

The price and the bells and whistles of the SDS 100 is why I have not bought one. If I bought one, it would be a SDS 200. I hate proprietary battery options.

My BCD996P2 started jumping pass some of the settings, when I'm in the menu. about a two years ago. Used to drive me nuts, not so much now, because I control the rig with ProScan. Radio is five years old.

Unfortunately the receiver/decoder design needed to properly decode simulcast for a BCD436HP "upgrade" model would likely result in poor battery life for AA batteries thus requiring a proprietary battery as well. Other than the required receiver redesign for simulcast, about the only big change between a SDS100 and the BCD436HP is the color display and proprietary battery (which is mandatory for decent battery life). The color display added very little additional cost relative to the price of the scanner and uses very little additional power, compared to the receiver. The bottom line for what you are asking for is that you would have had the equivalent of a SDS100 with a B/W display that would have probably cost only a little bit less than the current SDS100. IMHO the current technology just cannot give you what you want for a consumer priced scanner.

Not to forget when the 436 came out all the people complained to UPMan we want a replaceable LI-ON and external battery charger.
I posted then if they got what they wanted people would complain about the batter change. Also as posted here it would take 9 AA batteries to provide the power to supply what the big battery does now which is smaller and lighter. People also wanted a scanner built in a radio case and they got it.

I actually remember that post! The 436 was a good radio after a lot of problems got ironed out. It's kind of long in the tooth now, it could never be modified with an update to receive simulcast reception like the SDS.

This update we've been discussing is one full year old and I'm not sure we're going to see anymore.

I have to admit I do agree with you about the screen. It's very clear and easy to read but I too find it very cluttered and it reminds me of a Christmas tree. The upper and lower case right off of the database makes it hard for me to see what I'm listening to.

The great thing about the display is that you can modify it to the way that you want you can take all that stuff off the screen and you can rewrite the alpha tags to your liking like I have.

As explained you're never going to stuff an SDS radio in the carcass of a 436 because of the power required. You need that proprietary battery. If you ever do get an SDS 100 remember you can modify it in many different ways Iike turning off those bells and whistles and making it simple and easy to read.PSX_20190504_002248001.jpeg
