I also tried the 2-9-DEPT startup key combo, and it cleared the SD card, but still hangs on the startup screen. The only thing it accomplished was to change the startup message to the factory default message.

Have you tried pushing the firmware file again (manually put it on a card)? Or even an older FW file if you have it. IIRC it will read the card for firmware before the boot screen, so you should be able to get it to shove the firmware in again if you have it on the card.

Yes with several cards. I've also tried known good cards without firmware files. It reaches the point where the custom startup screen ("this scanner owned by") displays, and hangs there.

jon: remove the card and use an external card reader to Clear User Data. Copy 1.14.00 to the firmware folder. Put in the card and power up. The firmware update process occurs before the boot screen process. But, I think it saw the same version update in the folder as already applied, so ignored it. Having a different version there, it should not ignore it.

Support NXDN Over The Air Alias
If you don't have an alpha assigned and an OTAA is received, the OTAA will be shown.

Scanner must be in 3 Line Display OFF. If an alias is assigned, it will show in the bottom of the display where the UID shows. It will show: ENG14 if an Alias is assigned. If no alias assigned: UID:1234 will show. Convenient feature to identify unassigned talk groups and radio ID's. I know this has been available on SDR.

You need to explain "Cannot update." So far, nothing you've said corresponds to anything I can use to diagnose the issue you are having.

With regards to the issue about downloading the 0-byte file "still" -

I updated a second 536 and my 436 using a separate computer than the one I reported the issue with earlier. It would appear if your computer/Sentinel has already downloaded a file with the same file name, it will assume that it doesn't need to download the file again - or has it cached somewhere. I don't know if this is a fault of Sentinel, Windows, the FTP protocol, or the Internet in general. When I attempted the download using the computer which had already received the 0-byte file, the "downloading" progress bar zipped by in a flash, every time I tried. When I came down to this other computer, and attempted to download the same file, it progressed as you would expect when downloading a 2mb file.
